STATESBORO, Ga. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team battled with Georgia Southern through 108:04 of action on Friday night in Statesboro, Ga., but the Eagles pulled out a goal with 1:56 left in the second overtime to take a 3-2 win from the Blue Hose.
PC moves to 2-4-0 overall and will next host Mercer on Saturday at 7 p.m. Georgia Southern improves to 4-4-0.
Hunter Norton converted on the game-winning shot, taking an assist from Ethan LaPan and finishing from 13 yards out.
Norton assisted on the game-tying score as well by Witt Carlisle in the 75th minute. The score avenged an earlier Eagles own goal in the 63rd minute that gave PC a 2-1 lead. A Blue Hose cross found an Eagles defender, who deflected the ball in to put the visitors in front.
John Speed (Decatur, Ga.) gave the Blue Hose an early lead in the 15th minute. Josh Carter (Anchorage, Alaska) sent in a cross through the box to the freshman, who fired in a shot from 10 yards away to give the newcomer his first collegiate score. He joins Ian Dempsey (Madison, Ala.) on the list of PC freshmen to score this season.
Georgia Southern scored 2:55 before halftime on a Reed Norton tally to take a 1-1 tie into the break.
PC goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) made 11 saves on the night. Four came in each of the first two halves and the redshirt senior stopped three in the first extra period. The Eagles outshot PC by a 37 to eight count and took 13 corner kicks to PC's three.
Speed led PC in shots, with three. Jordan Archer (Charlotte, N.C.) and Brett Godwin (Suwanee, Ga.) never left the field while Mario Gojic (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Ryan Reeves (Berkhamsted, England) each cracked the 100-minute mark.
PC hung tough for the final two overtimes after Matthew Palma (Greenville, S.C.) left the game late in regulation with his second yellow card.
