CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College men's soccer team dropped a hard fought game to UNC Asheville 1-0 on Wednesday night at Martin Stadium in the last game of the season.
Paul Egle scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick to give the Bulldogs (4-8-3) their third straight win and punch their ticket to the Big South Championship tournament next week. Egle has now scored in three straight matches as he tallied his fourth goal of the season on the PK.
The Blue Hose (1-14-0) put together 15 shots in the loss, including two on goal by Cade Crow (Liberty, Mo.) and one apiece by Mason Lewis (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), Matthew McManis (Greenwood, S.C.), Garrett Glaze (Charleston, S.C.), and Chase Fearon (Lee's Summit, Mo.).
UNC Asheville evenly split eight shots in the two halves. Victor Aguiar had two shots on goal to lead the Bulldogs' offensive attack. Presbyterian also held a 15-8 advantage over the Bulldogs in corner kicks
Connor Behrend (St. Simons Island, Ga.) made four saves in the loss for the Blue Hose, including two big saves in the second half to keep the Bulldogs off the board. Asheville goalkeeper Dan Jackson made six saves in the game, including an impressive save on Lewis' power shot with just under 15 to play.
PC will now say goodbye to seniors Josh Carter, Brett Godwin, Tommy Erwood, and Ignacio Monchetti.
