Blue Hose Lacrosse Suffers Setback at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team dropped the first match of its Big South Conference weekend in a 18-7 defeat at Coastal Carolina on Friday.

PC moves to 4-12 on the year and 0-6 in the Big South. The Blue Hose next play at Winthrop on Sunday at 1 p.m. Coastal Carolina improves to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in League action.

Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) led PC with three goals and Liz Bedell (Londonderry, N.H.) added two, a career-high for the sophomore. Maura Talvacchia (Moorestown, N.J.) caused a team-high four caused turnovers to improve her record-setting season in that category. She also controlled a team-best three draws and collected a game-high six ground balls.

Freshman goalkeeper Tay Lyles (Stevensville, Md.) stopped eight shots on the day—four in each half—and Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) stopped four in 30:12 of action.

Alicia Geiter led Coastal Carolina with three goals, part of a trio of Chanticleers with three points.

Coastal struck twice to open the game before Bedell potted her first at the 23:40 mark. She scored again at 20:40 following a pair of Chanticleer goals. The home side added eight goals before the halftime horn for a 12-2 advantage at the break. Geitger netted all three of her goals during the run.

The second half told a different story, beginning with Schaaf finding the back of the net for two unanswered goals out of the gate. After two Chanticleer scores, Kelsey Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.) scored her fifth of the season on a free-position opportunity.

Paige Timberg and Kelsey Thurston scored for the home side and Schaaf answered with her 17th of the year on another free position shot. Coastal scored twice more around a Maddie Seiloff (Marietta, Ga.) free-position score, her 26th of the year.

The Blue Hose out-drew the Chanticleers in the second half, seven to five.
