CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College women's soccer team fell to Furman 4-1 in the home opener at Martin Stadium on Friday night.
The visiting Paladins were led by Jamie Alexander, who scored two goals to seal the victory for Furman in the 53rd and 85th minutes. Stephanie DeVita and Kristen Baker also tallied one goal apiece for the Paladins.
The victors were the first on the board in the 26th minute when DaVita collected a loose ball in the box and found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
PC's Sarah Yoss (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mills H.S.) responded minutes later to tie the game 1-1, scoring her first career goal in the 30th minute for the Blue Hose. Yoss scored on a rebounded shot taken by teammate Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga./Sandy Creek H.S.)
Baker scored for the Paladins just two minutes later off an assist by teammate India Robinson. Alexander sealed the deal for Furman scoring a goal in the 53rd minute off a pass from Hannah Stanifer. Alexander scored again in the 85th minute when she found the top left corner to score the final goal of the game.
Furman ended the game with 20 shots, while PC had 10. Furman also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Sydney Fontenot (Austin Texas, James Bowie H.S.) took the loss in goal for the Blue Hose, allowing four goals and making seven saves.
Rose Hull allowed one goal in the first half and had four total saves to get the win in goal for the Paladins. Maggie Grisell made one save in her 16 minutes of action on the field. Holly Reilly also saw some playing time for Furman.
The Blue Hose will be back at home on Sept. 7 when they host Alabama State at 1 p.m. at Martin Stadium.
