CINCINNATI, OH- The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team led at halftime, but was outscored 5-2 in the second frame by Stetson University to take an 8-7 loss on Friday morning in Cincinnati.
The Blue Hose drop to 0-4 on the year and will stay in Ohio through the weekend with a match on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Cincinnati. Stetson's record improves to 2-3.
Miriam Collins (Woodstock, Ga.) and Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) each scored two goals apiece in the loss to lead the Blue Hose. Grace Gabrovic (Orlando, Fla.), Claire Frase (Fort Mill, S.C.), and Grace MacMillan (Wooster, Oh.) had one goal apiece.
Frase, Gabrovic, Kelty Fletcher (Jupiter, Fla.), and Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) each dished out an assist.
Stetson got out to a two-goal lead with goals scored by Sam Maguire and Lindsay Summers before PC tied it up with 10:56 to play in the half on goals scored by Frase and Collins.
Rachel Volocchi put the Hatters ahead 3-2 with 9:42 to play in the first half, but Collins tallied her second goal of the match on a pass from Gabrovic to tie it up with 7:07 remaining.
Katy Richardson scored her first goal of the match on a pass from Maggie Richardson to put the Blue Hose up for the first time, 4-3. MacMillan took a pass from Frase with just over 30 seconds to play in the half to send PC into the locker room up 5-3 at halftime.
PC opened the second half with a goal by Gabrovic scored on a free position shot to put the Blue Hose up 6-3 with 27:45 left in the match.
Maddie Holvey tallied her first goal of the season with 20 minutes remaining to pull Stetson within two scores, 6-4.
Katy Richardson recorded her second goal of the match with 16:23 to play to put PC up by three again, 7-4, but Stetson closed out the match with four-straight goals in the final 10 minutes to take the match from PC.
Lee-Ann Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) made seven saves in goal for the Blue Hose. Whitney Meyers registered four saves for the Hatters.
