Cincinnati, OH- The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team suffered a 14-8 setback to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium.
The Blue Hose drop to 0-5 and host first-year team Gardner-Webb on Thursday at Old Bailey Stadium at 4 p.m. The Bearcats improve to 2-5 on the year.
Lauren Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) led the Blue Hose with five points on three goals and two assists. Grace Gabrovic (Orlando, Fla.) also had a hat trick, while Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Miriam Collins (Woodstock, Ga.) each had one goal apiece.
Gabrovic, Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.), and Kathleen Gerrits (Lake Worth, Fla.) each won two draw controls, while Amanda Lindsey (Peachtree City, Ga.) collected five groundballs. Lee-Ann Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) made 11 saves in goal for the Blue Hose.
Courtney Curtis recorded four goals for the Bearcats, while Sarah Del Bane and Ashley Helmrath each had two. Del Bane also had four assists for the hosts.
The Bearcats got out to a 3-0 lead before Schaaf found Goergen in front of the goal for PC's first score with 21:11 to play in the first half.
Cincy scored again to extend its lead to 4-1, but Schaaf scored a goal of her own on a free position shot a few minutes later to bring it to 4-2 with 14:53 left in the half.
The hosts scored two more quick goals before Gabrovic tallied her third goal of the season with 6:16 on the clock to bring the Blue Hose within three, 6-3. The Bearcats closed out the half with two goals on free position shots to take an 8-3 halftime lead.
Coming back from the break, Schaaf scored her second goal of the game with 22:13 to play to make the score 8-4. Cincinnati went on to score the next three goals, though, as they took a 11-4 lead with 9:40 remaining. Collins tallied her third goal of the year on a free position shot just seconds later to make the score 11-5.
Cincinnati scored two more goals before Schaaf completed the hat trick for PC with 5:26 left in the game. The Bearcats scored one more goal, but Gabrovic closed out the match with two straight goals, one assisted by Schaaf, to also get the hat trick.
