CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team lost to Big South Conference foe Longwood, 21-7, on Friday at PC's Martin Stadium.
The Lancers scored six goals in the opening six minutes of the contest to get a jump on PC and never look back as they went on to win its second straight conference win.
PC drops to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the Big South. Longwood advances to 4-9 and 2-1 in conference action. PC will host Liberty on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) scored two goals apiece for the Blue Hose. Kelty Fletcher (Jupiter, Fla.), Claire Frase (Fort Mill, S.C.), and Grace MacMillan (Wooster, Oh.) each recorded one goal for the hosts.
Fletcher, Richardson, Schaaf, and Maggie Richardson each tallied an assist for PC.
Alexandra Cole (Duluth, Ga.) led PC with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Lee-Ann Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) made four saves in her 40 minutes of action. Sophia Cuzzupe (Newtown Square, Pa.) made two saves during the final 20 minutes of the contest.
Katie McHugh scored a game-high eight goals for the Lancers. Sarah Butler had three scores, while Sara Jacobson, Lisa Schell, and Hollyn Royster each had two goals apiece. Madison Stair, Sarah Arndt, Riley Dolan, and Charleigh Kondas each registered one goal for Longwood.
Jacobson and Liz Trainer dished out three assists each for the Lancers, while Arndt and Stair had two each and McHugh had one.
Arndt won an impressive nine draw controls for the Lancers, while Madelynn Rollins had three ground balls. Christian Acker made five saves in goal for Longwood, while Chelsea Diionno came in during the final 12 minutes of the game to make two saves.
Longwood got out to a 6-0 lead with 24 minutes to play in the first half before Goergen scored with 20:50 on the clock in the first on a pass from Schaaf.
PC struck again two minutes later when Katy Richardson scored on a free position shot for her 23rd goal of the season.
Longwood scored another goal with 15:34 to play, but Katy Richardson scored again for the Blue Hose, on a pass from Maggie Richardson to make it 7-3.
The Lancers scored three more goals before Fletcher tallied her fifth goal of the season for PC. Longwood scored two more goals before Goergen scored the final goal of the half on a pass from Katy Richardson with 2:09 left to make it 12-5 at halftime.
Coming back from the half, Longwood scored four quick goals to take a 16-5 lead with 20:09 to play. Frase scored on a free position shot for her 13th goal of the year before the Lancers went on to score five straight goals. MacMillan scored with less than a minute left on a pass from Fletcher to give the final score of 21-7.
