Campbell Deals PC a Conference Setback

BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Alexandra Cole (Duluth, Ga.) netted two goals and two assists for the Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team, but it wasn't enough as Cambell went on to get the 20-7 win on Friday night at Barker-Lane Stadium

PC falls to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in the Big South Conference. Campbell wins its first conference contest to improve to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in Big South action. 

Cole led PC with her four points on two scores and two assists.. Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) recorded two goals in the loss, while Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga), Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.), and Ashley Wren (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) scored one goal apiece. 

Maura Talvacchia (Moorestown, N.J.) had a team-high eight caused turnovers and five ground balls. Taylor Johnson (Kennesaw, Ga.) won five draw controls for the Blue Hose.

Goalkeeper Lee-Ann Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) made eight saves and also had eight ground balls. Sophia Cuzzupe (Newtown Square, Pa.) came in for goalie relief for the last 18 minutes of the game and made four saves. 

Loren Day scored five goals and had one assist for the winning Camels. Erica Hitch had four goals and one assist, while Rebecca Sheinfeld and Kayla Reilly had three goals apiece. Reilly also had a team-high two assists and Hayley Carroll and Annie Cook scored one goal each for the hosts. 

Annie Cook had a team-high eight ground balls, while Reilly had five. Merredith Bechler made nine saves in goal for the Camels for the win. .

Wren put the Blue Hose on the board when she scored her sixth goal of the season on an assist from Cole just one minute into the game.

Day struck on back-to-back goals for the Camels to take a one-point lead with 26:55 to play in the first half, but Katy Richardson tied it up at 2-2 one minute later.

Campbell scored five straight goals to pull away from the Blue Hose, but Maggie Richardson broke PC's dry spell with a goal to make it 7-3 with 9:54 to play.

The Camels scored back-to-back goals to take a six-point lead before Cole scored for PC with 7:18 on the clock. The hosts notched two more goals before Cole closed out the half with a free position goal to make it 11-5 at halftime. 

The hosts opened the second half with four straight goals before Katy Richardson tallied her second goal of the game to make it 15-6 with 23:39 to play. Campbell scored two straight goals before Goergen netted a goal on an assist from Cole. 

Campbell closed out the contest with three goals to get the 13-goal conference win.
