Coastal Powers Past PC in Big South Play

CONWAY, S.C.- Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) scored four goals on the way to her team-leading 34th goal of the season to pace the Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon, as Coastal Carolina went on to get the 17-7 win in Big South Conference action at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

PC (3-12, 0-6) closes out the regular season on Friday at Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m., while Coastal (9-5, 4-2) wraps up its season on Friday night at Campbell in a 7 p.m. game. 

Richardson led the way for PC with four goals and one assist in the loss. Lauren Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) netted two goals, while Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga.) scored one. 

Jen Cosgrove paced the Chanticleers with six goals and one assist, while Keri White accounted for three goals and two assists and Sara Nolan had three goals and one assist.

The Chants held advantages in ground balls (21-18) and draw controls (16-10). Maura Talvacchia (Moorestown, N.J.) had two caused turnovers and four ground balls for the Blue Hose. Amanda Lindsey (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Taylor Johnson (Kennesaw, Ga.) won three draw controls apiece. 

Lee-Ann Salim took the loss in goal for the Blue Hose. She made seven saves in her 37 minutes of action. Sophia Cuzzupe (Newtown Square, Pa.) came in for the remainder of the game and made four stops. Jenna Stover and Trista Kuehn split time in goal for Coastal, accounting for a combined nine saves.

The Chants jumped out to a two-goal lead before Goergen tallied her 11th goal of the season in the seventh minute of the game on a pass from Alexandra Cole (Duluth, Ga.).

Nolan recorded her second goal of the contest for Coastal before Katy Richardson scored her first goal of the game on a pass from Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) to cut it to 3-2 with 16:27 left in the first half.

Coastal went on to score the next four goals of the game before Schaaf scored on an assist from Katy Richardson to make it 7-3 with 8:36 remaining in the first half. 

The hosts closed out the half by outscoring PC 4-1. Katy Richrdson recorded her second goal of the game to break up the CCU scoring run and make it 11-4 at the half. 

Coastal opened the second half with five straight goals, including two in a row by both Charlotte O'Leary and Cosgrove to push the score to 16-4.

Katy Richardson scored back-to-back goals for the Blue Hose and Schaaf scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot to bring the score to 16-7. Caitlin Kratzer closed out the conference contest with a free position goal for the Chants with 2:28 to play.
