CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team got topped by the University of Cincinnati, 17-6, Sunday afternoon at Old Bailey Stadium.
The Blue Hose went to 1-1 on the season, while the Bearcats also went to 1-1 on the year. PC returns to action 3 p.m. Friday against Fresno State at Old Bailey Stadium.
Lauren Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) powered the PC offense with four goals on six shots, while Cady Roberts (The Woodlands, Texas) provided two assists and a goal on five shots.
Megan Bell led the Bearcats with four goals and two assists on 14 shots, five ground balls and six draw controls, while Courtney Curtis added three goals and an assist on five shots.
Schaaf netted her fourth goal of the season less than four minutes into the game and gave the Blue Hose an early 1-0 lead. The Bearcats scored five unanswered before Claire Frase (Fort Mill, S.C.) found the back of the net with eight minutes left before halftime, her fifth goal of the season.
Cincinnati responded with two goals before Schaaf scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, both assisted by Roberts, and cut the UC lead to 7-4. Curtis netted her second goal of the game with six seconds remaining before halftime and gave the Bearcats an 8-4 lead into the locker room.
The Bearcats opened the second half with two goals before Roberts scored her fifth goals of the season and cut the UC lead in half, 10-5. Cincinnati netted two more before Schaaf found the back of the net for the fourth time on the day.
Cincinnati closed the game with five unanswered goals.
Sophia Cuzzupe collected 10 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The Blue Hose forced UC into 28 turnovers and collected 29 ground balls in the game.
