CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse was unable to hold off Fresno State as they scored 11 second half goals and topped PC 14-10 Friday at Old Bailey Stadium.
The Blue Hose fell to 1-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs went to 2-2 on the year. PC takes to the road for the first time this season for a 2 p.m. matchup against Mercer on Sunday in Macon, Ga.
Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga.) led the Blue Hose offense with four goals on five shots, while Alexandra Cole (Duluth, Ga.) added two assists and a goal on two shots and forced four turnovers.
Kyleigh Westgarth powered the Fresno State attack with five goals on eight shots, collected six draw controls and five ground balls, while Chelsea Hall provided two assists and two goals on two shots.
The Blue Hose scored the first three goals less than three minutes into the game and took an early 3-0 lead. Westgarth then netted her first goal at the 21:35 marker of the first half. PC ran four-straight goals, including back-to-back goals from Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) and two assists from Cole, before the Bulldogs scored again.
The two teams swapped goals before the end of the half, while the Blue Hose took an 8-3 lead into the locker room.
Fresno State opened the second half with two-straight goals before Goergen netted her fourth goal of the game that put PC up 9-5 with 23:21 remaining in the game.
The Bulldogs added two more goals before Megan Dreyer (Kennesaw, Ga.) found the back of the net for the second time this season and put the Blue Hose up 10-7.
Fresno State scored the last seven goals with 13 and a half minutes left in the game, including the game winner by Westgarth at the 5:40 marker.
Sophia Cuzzupe (Newtown Square, Pa.) collected six saves between the posts for the Blue Hose.
PC held a 30-27 advantage in ground balls and forced Fresno State into 21 turnovers.
