Stetson Edges PC, 10-9, in Double Overtime

CLINTON, S.C. – Stetson netted the game winning goal less than a minute and a half into the second overtime and took a 10-9 win over the Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team Saturday at Old Bailey Stadium.

The Blue Hose fell to 1-4 on the season, while the Hatters improved to 2-2 on the year. PC takes to the road for a 1 p.m. contest against Howard on Saturday in Washington, D.C.

Megan Dreyer (Kennesaw, Ga.) powered the Blue Hose offense with four goals, while Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga.) netted two goals. Dreyer provided PC with her first career hat trick.

Hallie Merz led Stetson with four goals and added an assist, while Lindsay Summers dished four assists in the game.

Dreyer led the game off with a goal at the 26:32 marker of the first half, assisted by Alexandra Cole (Duluth, Ga.). Goergen added her goal less than a minute later on a free position and put the Blue Hose up 2-0.

Stetson responded with three-straight goals. Merz put the Hatters up 3-2 on a free position goal with 16:20 left in the first half.

The Blue Hose closed the half with three-straight goals and took a 5-3 lead into the locker room. Goergen tied the game a 3-3 with 15:25 left in the half. Dreyer gave PC a 4-3 lead before Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) closed the half with a free position goal.

Stetson opened the second half with two goals before Lauren Schaaf (Ellicott, City, Md.) netted a free position goal and put the Blue Hose up 6-5. Cady Roberts (The Woodlands, Texas) then scored on a pass from Clarie Frase (Fort Mill, S.C.) with 16:09 left in the game.

Merz netted a goal and cut the PC lead to 7-6. Dreyer closed the PC scoring with two-straight goals, one assisted by Roberts.

The Hatters closed regulation with three-straight goals. Merz tied the game at 9-9 on a free position goal with 1:25 left in the game.

Sam Maguire scored the game winner less than a minute and a half into the second overtime with an assist from Shelby Lehmann.

Sophia Cuzzupe (Newtown Square, Pa.) collected one save in 30 minutes of play, while Lee-Ann Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) played 30 minutes between the posts for the Blue Hose.
