Knotted at 2-2 midway through the first half, Campbell went on an 11-2 run the next 17 and a half minutes to take the 13-4 lead at intermission and the eventual 18-7 win over the Presbyterian College lacrosse team in Big South action Wednesday afternoon at Martin Stadium. A closer second half, the Camels outscored the Blue Hose just 5-3.
The Blue Hose drop to 3-12 overall and 1-5 in the Big South, while Campbell improves to 9-6, 5-1. PC takes a week off before hosting Gardner-Webb in a 5 p.m., game Wednesday, April 20.
Cady Roberts scored her 21st goal of the season to give PC the early 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the contest. Loren Day scored her first of three goals on the day, to tie it up at the 23:27 mark. Sami Smith made it a 2-1 lead just 15 seconds later before the Blue Hose even the score with a goal from Megan Dreyer.
PC would score just two more goals in the half, both off Lauren Schaaf (at 10:11 and 6:01), as Campbell recorded 11, including the final five of the stanza, to head to intermission leading 13-4. Kaki Armiger scored three during the stretch, with Mackenzie Koeller, Eric Hitch, and Kayla Reilly scoring two apiece.
Campbell opened the second with four unanswered before Katy Richardson put PC on the board again at the 10:19 mark. After the Camels scored their 18th goal, this one off Katlin Steinbauer, the Blue Hose recorded the final two, with Natalie Barnett netting her fifth of the season at 2:32, and Jess Goergen scoring her 16th of the year with four seconds left in the game.
The Camels finished the game with 39 shots, to PC's 15, with the Blue Hose edging the visitors in ground balls, 28-27. PC recorded an 11-5 advantage in saves, with the Blue Hose turning the ball over 26 times, compared to 19 for Campbell. Campbell was 16-of-17 in clears, while PC was 15-27.
Armiger led Campbell with four goals, followed by Hitch and Day with three. In the assists category it was Hitch and Reilly with four apiece to pace the Camels.
Schaaf led PC with two goals, with Richardson, Kathleen Gerrits and Alexandra Cole picking up assists.
