LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team (3-14, 1-7 Big South) fell to Liberty (5-12, 4-4 Big South), 21-6, on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va. in the regular season finale for the Blue Hose.
Cassie Watters score two goals on two shots to lead PC, while senior Liz Bedell grabbed five ground balls and caused two turnovers on defense. Maura Talvacchia totaled three ground balls and three caused turnovers as well. As a team, PC converted on a high percentage of shots, making six goals on 15 attempts.
PC held its own early in the match, as Megan Dreyer scored the opening goal of the game to give the Blue Hose the 1-0 lead. Lauren Schaaf later scored at the 17:19 mark to cut it to 3-2 at the time. The Flames would net nine straight goals from that point to take a 12-2 halftime lead.
In the second half, Watters opened the period with her first of two goals in the game. Liberty would score four straight goals to push the lead to 16-3 but the Blue Hose showed some life, outscoring the Flames 3-2 over a five-minute stretch late in the half. LU closed out the game with three late goals for the eventual final score.
PC will open play in the Big South Championship on Saturday, April 30. Opponent, location and time have yet to be determined with one conference game remaining to be played on Sunday.
