RADFORD, Va. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team scored six of the last nine goals in the game on route to a 13-8 victory over Radford on Saturday at Cupp Stadium. The victory marks the first Big South Conference win for PC in school history.
The Blue Hose go to 3-10, 1-4 in the Big South, while the Highlanders fell to 1-10, 0-4 on the season. PC returns home for an 11 a.m. contest against Central Michigan on Sunday at Martin Stadium.
Cady Roberts (The Woodlands, Texas) led all scorers with four goals, while Katy Richardson (Lake Worth, Fla.) powered all players with three assists for the Blue Hose. Lauren Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md) and Richardson both added three goals.
Gracie Peterson led the Highlanders with three goals, while Adrian Rius powered the team with three assists and added two goals.
Richardson started the game with two straight goals less than four minutes into the game and gave the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead early. Radford responded with two goals and tied the game before Jess Goergen (Fayetteville, Ga.) netted a free position goal and gave PC the 3-2 advantage.
The Blue Hose scored four of the last five goals in the first half; Schaaf produced PC's final three. The Blue Hose held a 7-4 lead at the break.
PC scored four straight goals in the second half and opened up an 11-5 lead with 22:42 left in the game. Richardson produced the eventual game winner with 27:17 left on the clock, her eighth goal of the season.
Megan Dreyer (Kennesaw, Ga.) netted her ninth goal of the season on a pass from Schaaf in the last seven minutes of the game. Roberts ended the scoring with an assist from Goergen with less than five minutes remaining, her 20th goal of the season.
Sophia Cuzzupe (Newtown Square, Pa.) collected seven saves in goal for the Blue Hose.
