ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse fell to top-seeded Winthrop, 18-2, on Sunday morning at Nations Ford High School, after the game was suspended on Saturday evening. The loss marks the end of the season for the Blue Hose.
Katy Richardson and Taylor Johnson scored the lone PC goals, coming late in the second half. Richardson finishes the year with 18 goals and 26 points, while Johnson scored for the second time season. Second team All-Big South defender Maura Talvacchia totaled six caused turnovers and three ground balls. Talvacchia finishes the season with 72 caused turnovers and 66 ground balls, both PC single-season records.
Shannon Gallagher led Winthrop with four goals and three assists, while Kristen Shriver had two goals and five assists. Allie Yeager also contributed four goals for the Big South's regular season champion.
The Eagles were in control for much of the game, pulling out to a 12-0 halftime lead. Winthrop pushed the lead to 18-0, before Johnson scored the first PC goal with 10:15 to play in the second half. Richardson scored a while later, finding the net with just over three minutes remaining in the contest.
