Blue Hose Rally Not Enough Against Arizona State

Clinton, S.C. – Sarah Marshall scored a pair of late goals for Presbyterian College to help keep pace with Arizona State in the second half, but the Blue Hose women's lacrosse team fell to the Sun Devils, 18-6, on Sunday afternoon behind a big first half for the visitors. Arizona State was led by Julia Burns' game-high six points (3G-3A) and Kerri Clayton's four goals. Natalie Barnett also scored two goals for PC.

Scoring the Game

Arizona State built a comfortable lead with seven goals over the game's first seven minutes. Clayton scored her second of the game at 20:52 to give ASU an 8-0 lead. Barnett answered for PC with an unassisted goal at 17:38. The Sun Devils then rattled off a 5-0 run to make it a 13-1 game. Madison Berg scored her seventh of the season with 4:50 left in the first half, making it 13-2. A goal from Maura Cissel with 1:58 left brought the game to its halftime score, 14-2.

With rain showers off and on in the second half, PC and ASU each scored four goals in the second half. The Sun Devils struck first off the stick from Julia Burns at 22:38. Barnett then scored her second of the day, 16th of the year, with 18:23 remaining off a free position attempt. Megan Dreyer added an unassisted goal four minutes later to cut the lead to 15-4. After a 3-0 run from Arizona State, Marshall scored the game's final two goals. The first came off an assist from Kara DiClemente at 6:01, and the final was with 4:11 remaining and off a pass from Alyssa Cooke.

For the Record

Presbyterian College falls to 1-14 on the season, while Arizona State improves to 5-10.

Stats of the Game

Arizona State led in shots, 33-15, and shots on goal, 26-7. Draw controls also favored the visitors, 16-10, as did ground balls, 23-10. The Sun Devils forced nine of 18 turnovers, while the Blue Hose forced two of 11 turnovers.

Notables

Sarah Marshall has scored a goal in eight-straight and has a point in 13-straight games.
