PC Men's Tennis Clipped by Mercer

MACON, Ga. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team continued its season-opening road trip with a tight 4-3 loss at Mercer on Saturday afternoon.

COACH RINCON ON THE MATCH
"Today we lost another tough battle," said head coach Eduardo Rincon. "I feel like we missed some opportunities, but I think the team is going in the right direction, and sooner or later those close matches will end up going our way."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams split the first two doubles contests, with the hosts taking a win at No. 1 and PC evening things up with a victory at No. 3. The Bears then broke the deadlock with a win at No. 2 to claim the doubles point.
- The Bears opened up a 3-0 lead after straight-set victories at No. 6 and No. 1 singles.
- Teo Cariov and Oscar Alvarez got Presbyterian back within a point with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively.
- Mercer clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 3.
- After dropping the first set, Daniel Stenger rallied to win at the No. 2 position for PC.
 
NOTABLES
- Freshman Teo Cariov collected his first collegiate singles victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 5 position.
- With his win at No. 4, Oscar Alvarez improved to 2-0 on the season in singles play.
- In his season debut, Nicholas McKinney paired with Max Benson at No. 3 doubles, and the duo picked up the Blue Hose first doubles win of the campaign.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose hit the road again next Saturday, Feb. 1, as they visit Chattanooga for a 1 pm match.
