CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – ESPNU has selected the Winthrop at Presbyterian men's basketball contest scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 19 as its third Big South Wildcard broadcast of the 2020-21 season, it was announced today by the Big South Conference office.  Game time will be 7:00pm inside the Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C.
Winthrop currently leads the Big South at 8-0, while its 11-0 overall start is the best open to a season in league history. Â The Eagles lead the conference in scoring (86.5), have been ranked No. 2 in the Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll for four consecutive weeks, received votes in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 poll, and are just the second team in Big South history to open a conference season 8-0 in back-to-back years. Â Winthrop is led by the senior tandem of Charles Falden and Chandler Vaudrin. Â Falden is ninth in the league with 13.2 points per game, while Vaudrin leads the Big South in both rebounding (7.5) and assists (8.3), and has two triple-doubles in 2020-21.
Presbyterian is led by freshman guard
Rayshon Harrison, who is currently the Big South's top freshman scorer (16.2 points – 4th overall) and rebounder (7.2 – 3rd overall).  Sophomore
Owen McCormack is fifth in the conference in rebounding (6.7), and the Blue Hose are second overall in scoring defense at 68.0 points allowed. Â PC is 3-3 overall on the year and 1-1 in Big South games.
The match-up will mark Winthrop's 11th appearance in the Big South's ESPNU Wildcard series, while Presbyterian will make its second appearance.
This is the eighth year of the Big South's ESPNU Wildcard series, which again features six broadcasts –- Jan. 4 (at Radford 79, Hampton 66), Jan. 14 (Gardner-Webb at Radford), Jan. 19 (Winthrop at Presbyterian), Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 18 -- that are selected 7-14 days in advance.  A total of 30 games have been played in the series that began in 2013-14, and while the home teams are 21-9, the 30 games have been decided by an average of 8.40 points, with 19 of those being decided by single-digits.
