Blue Hose Sweep Belmont Abbey in Home Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team began its home slate with a sweep of Belmont Abbey, winning 7-0 in both ends of a doubleheader on Friday at the Templeton Tennis Courts.

COACH RINCON ON THE MATCHES
"The team did a great job today playing under very challenging conditions," said head coach Eduardo Rincon. "We tried a few different teams in doubles, and that will help us down the road. We're looking forward to facing another tough opponent (Coastal Carolina) on Sunday."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED MATCH ONE
- The Blue Hose quickly earned the doubles point, claiming victories at all three positions.
- PC continued to roll into singles play, with Alberto Conde getting the Blue Hose on the board first with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.
- Presbyterian went on to win all six singles contests, with five of those victories coming in straight sets.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED MATCH TWO
- The second match played out in similar fashion, as the Blue Hose once again won all three doubles contests to take a 1-0 edge into singles play.
- Jaime Castillo-Lopez and Conde got the ball rolling for PC in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
- Once again, all six singles matches went Presbyterian's way, with all six coming in straight sets.
 
NOTABLES
- Over the course of the two matches, Max Benson and Nicholas McKinney went a combined 4-0. The duo went 2-0 together in doubles to move to 4-0 as a pairing this season.
- McKinney also picked up his first two singles wins of the campaign to move to 6-0 overall in 2020.
- Oscar Alvarez, Castillo-Lopez, Conde and Daniel Stenger won all three of their matches on Friday.
- With his win at No. 2 singles in the first match, Alvarez improved to 4-0 in singles in 2020.
- In addition to McKinney, Castillo-Lopez and Conde also collected their first two singles victories of the campaign.
- Castillo-Lopez claimed his 36th career doubles victory on Friday, tying him with former Blue Hose Danny Bruce (2013-16) for 10th in the school's DI era (2008-present).

The Blue Hose head back out on the road on Sunday as they visit Coastal Carolina at 1 pm.
