Lacrosse Heads to Gardner-Webb for Rematch on Wednesday

Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team travels to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday for a 7 pm matchup against the Runnin' Bulldogs. PC fell short in the first matchup of the season, 16-12, which was played on March 26 in Clinton. As the second regular season matchup between Big South schools, it has been agreed that this will be a non-conference game.

Scouting the opponent | Series History
Gardner-Webb is on a two-game losing streak, dropping games to Winthrop (17-10) and Radford (14-9). In their last game against the Highlanders, it was an early five-goal deficit that proved to be too much for GWU.

Jada Preston (17g, 16a) leads the offense with 33 points in nine games, but Talen Francis (22g, 5a) leads the team in goals and is second in points at 27 on the year. Fourteen different players have registered at least one goal for GWU. Francis also leads the team with 40 draw controls and 18 ground balls.

Presbyterian moved to 2-5 all time against Gardner-Webb earlier this season. PC's last win in the series was a 17-6 victory in Boiling Springs on April 8, 2017.

On March 26, PC's Kara DiClemente scored three of her four goals during a second-half rally that came up short as the Gardner-Webb women's lacrosse team hung on to win 16-12. The Blue Hose outscored the Runnin' Bulldogs 7-2 to open the second half but could not overcome an 8-goal deficit from the first half. Gardner-Webb's Jada Preston led all scorers with 5 points (2g, 3a).

Last Time Out
Presbyterian hung on to earn a Big South win over Longwood, 12-11, on Saturday, April 3. Trailing by one, the Lancers had three shots in the final 32 seconds miss the net including one that struck post. Kelly Hyman and Abby Edmisten led the Blue Hose with four goals apiece in what was the program's first Big South win since 2017.

-Abby Edmisten was named the Big South Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on April 6. The sophomore midfielder led PC with 10 points on the week (9g, 1a) which included four goals on five shots in PC's 12-11 road win over Longwood.
-Abby Edmisten leads the Big South with an average of 3.33 goals per game, 1.33 free position goals per game and ranks 2nd with 3.83 points per game.
-Madison Berg shares the League lead with two game winners (@ Wofford, @ Longwood).
-Heidi Shafer leads the Big South with 8.5 saves per game and ranks 4th with a save percentage of .382.
-Presbyterian leads the Big South with a shot percentage of .470 (87 goals on 185 shots).
-Sarah Marshall currently has active streaks of 25 games (goal) and 30 games (point).
-Sarah Marshall moved into a 4th place tie in PC's record books with 113 points (84g, 29a). Her 84 goals also ranks 4th with third place (86 goals) just two goals away.
-Abby Edmisten moved her season total to 23 points (20g, 3a) which is a collegiate-best for the sophomore.
-Senior Ana Boothe (7g, 7a) is one goal and two-assists from tying her collegiate bests which were both established during her freshman year.
-Eric Clakeley enters his second season as the head coach of the Presbyterian College lacrosse team. In his first season at the helm, the Pennsylvania native went 2-5 before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

Two of the most experienced players in seniors Kelly Hyman and Sarah Marshall will serve as the team's captains for the 2021 season.
