Cunill Records Double-Double in Defeat at Florida

GAINESVILLE, FLA. – Junior Núria Cunill tallied her first double-double as a member of the Blue Hose with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Presbyterian College women's basketball team fell on Tuesday night by the score of 78-52 to Florida from Exactech Arena.

"I thought we competed from an energy and effort standpoint tonight. We had some moments where I thought we played at a really high level. The next step for us is improving our consistency on both ends of the floor."

Scoring the Game
- Florida scored the first seven points before a Mara Neira three cut it to 7-3 with 8:06 to play in the opening quarter. The Gators added a quick three before Cunill added a layup to cut it to 10-5. The hosts responded quickly with a 6-0 burst to make it 16-5 forcing an early timeout from the Blue Hose with 5:55 to play in the quarter. The Blue Hose pushed back with a 5-2 burst to cut it to 18-10 before the hosts pushed it to 20-14. Florida added a late basket to make it 22-14 after one quarter.
- The Gators connected on a quick three before the Blue Hose chipped away at the Gators lead with a 14-2 run to take a 28-27 lead with 5:14 to play in the opening half. In the run, the Blue Hose got points from five different players in that stretch to get the tight one-point advantage. Florida answered over the final 4:49 using a 13-2 run to take a 40-30 lead to the break.
- The hosts tallied the first five points of the third quarter to make it 45-30 with 7:59 to play in the quarter and lead to a Blue Hose timeout. The guests answered with a quick four points out of the timeout before a four-point burst from the Gators made it 49-34 for the hosts with 4:37 to play in the quarter. PC converted four straight free throws to cut it to 11, 49-38 before back-to-back Gator threes pushed it to 55-38 with 1:58 to play. The two teams traded free throws down the stretch with an Aubrie Kierscht three sprinkled in the closing minutes of the third quarter to make it 59-42 after three.
- The Gators began the fourth with a 7-0 burst before Paige Kindseth and Kierscht connected on back-to-back threes to cut it to 66-48 with 5:55 to play. Kindseth connected on a jumper with 5:11 to play before the hosts were able to close on a 10-2 run to pick up the non-conference victory over the Blue Hose.

Players of the Game
- Cunill led the Blue Hose with a double-double totaling 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double with PC. Tilda Sjökvist and Christina Kline each added eight points for Presbyterian. Sjökvist added a team-high four assists. Kirsten Deans led Florida with 18 points while Alberte Rimdal tallied 17 points as Deans and Rimdal combined to connect on all seven threes for the Gators. Ra Shaya Kyle tallied 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers for the Gators. Taliyah Wyche led the way on the glass with nine rebounds as Tatyana Wyche pulled down eight boards. Deans led Florida with five helpers.

Stats of the Game
- PC shot 32.1% (18-of-56) from the field as Florida recorded a 45.6% performance from the field (26-of-57) on Tuesday night. The Blue Hose and Gators both connected on seven threes. Presbyterian connected on 9-of-11 free throws as Florida was successful on 19-of-26 from the charity stripe. The Gators outrebounded the Blue Hose by a count of 36-34. Florida dished out 11 assists as PC tallied 10. The hosts outscored the Blue Hose in the paint 26-16 and had a 19-14 edge in bench points.

Notables
- Cunill totaled her best performance of the season with a season-high 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Hose on Tuesday night. It was Cunill's first double-double since November 2021 at Eastern Washington.
- It's the Blue Hose first double-double in a game since Feb. 16, 2022 when Tionna Carter had 17 points and 10 rebounds against USC Upstate.
- Sjökvist added to her team-high in assists with four more helpers to lead the Blue Hose. The reigning Big South Freshman of the Week has four or more assists in six contests this season including each of the last four games.
- PC posted a season-high 81.8% at the foul line on the night going 9-of-11 led by 3-of-4 by Sonia Sato. Cunill along with Christina Kline and Bryanna Brady each added a pair of free throws.

-The Blue Hose are off the court for the next nine days before returning to the Sunshine State for a 6 p.m. tip against Florida State on Dec. 15. The matchup with the Seminoles will be shown on ACC Network.
