Women's Tennis Set for Pair of Road Matches this Weekend

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend beginning on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Spartanburg against Wofford. The busy weekend wraps up on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against Elon.

COACH ROBERTS ON WEEKEND MATCHES
" Really excited for this weekend. It's a big road test and I know the team is ready. Wofford and Elon are both solid teams so we are looking forward to the battles."

SCHEDULE CHANGES
- Presbyterian's match against College of Charleston that was postponed on Wednesday afternoon has been rescheduled for March 2nd in Charleston at 1:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
- Wofford comes into the weekend with a 3-2 record as the Terriers have won three straight matches over Coastal Carolina, Emmanuel and North Greenville.
- Lily Woods is a perfect 4-0 on the season at the No. 1 singles position for Wofford. Georgia Fischer, Brianna Wilbur and Liz Massie each have three singles wins on the year.
- Woods and Fischer are the top doubles pair for Wofford with a 3-1 mark.
- Wofford is 10-2 all-time in the DI era against the Blue Hose with the Terriers winning the last six meetings against Presbyterian.
 
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
- Elon enters the weekend with a 3-2 record as the Phoenix are set to host Georgia State on Saturday morning before hosting the Blue Hose on Sunday.
- The Phoenix have won three consecutive matches against Richmond, Campbell and Gardner-Webb.
- Julie Ball is the singles leader for Elon with a 3-2 record as three other players have a pair of wins in singles play so far this year.
- Elon has two doubles pairs with a 2-2 record so far this year leading them in doubles action.
- The Phoenix have taken each of the prior four meetings in Presbyterian's DI era with the last coming with a 7-0 victory last spring at Elon.

SANCHEZ EARNS BIG SOUTH HONORS
- Presbyterian College freshman Claudia Sanchez was named the Big South Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, Jan. 31-Feb. 7, the league announced on Wednesday. 
- It's the second Blue Hose player in as many weeks to be honored by the league as senior Jessica Leeman was named the conference's Player of the Week last week. 
- Sanchez is tied for the team lead with three singles wins on the year as she and Beth Lacey hold the top spot. 
- It's the first freshman of the week honor for Presbyterian since last spring when Alexa Wilson was honored by the league in March. 
 
PRESEASON POLL
- The Presbyterian College women's tennis team was selected fourth by the league's coaches in the Big South Preseason Poll, as was announced earlier this week.
- The fourth-place selection marks the highest ever preseason ranking the Blue Hose have earned in their time in the Big South surpassing the fifth-place selection during the 2019 preseason.
- Charleston Southern received eight first-place votes and 80 total points as the Buccaneers were tabbed to win the league. Radford earned a first-place vote and earned 62 points. Campbell totaled 57 points and finished in third place with PC earning 56 points and finishing in fourth in the preseason poll. UNC Asheville was selected fifth with 49 points, while Gardner-Webb slid in sixth place with 47 points. Longwood was chosen seventh in the preseason poll with 27 points, with N.C. A&T (15 points) in eighth and Hampton rounded out the field with 12 points in ninth place.

- The Blue Hose return home on February 26th for a noon first serve against Davidson from the Templeton Tennis Courts.
