Three-Run 10th Inning Propels Blue Hose Past WCU

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Jack Gorman's two-run double in the 10th pushed the Presbyterian College baseball team in front for good on Wednesday as the Blue Hose defeated Western Carolina 11-8 in 10 innings at Childress Field. Eric Toth tallied three runs knocked in as Gorman and Jeremiah Boyd each picked up two key RBIs apiece in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Western Carolina got the early lead in the first with a sac fly and RBI double to take a 2-0 lead after an inning. 
- Kyle Decker got the Blue Hose on the board in the second with a Kyle Decker RBI groundout to make it 2-1 Catamounts after 1.5 innings.
- WCU pushed across a run in the second to push it back to a two-run lead at 3-1 after two.
- PC quickly answered again with a run in the third to cut it back to a one-run game at 3-2. 
- The Catamounts pushed the lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning with a solo home run to right-centerfield.
- The guests answered in a big way with a three-run double from Toth in the seventh to jump in front by the score of 5-4. Jeremiah Boyd capped the inning with an RBI single to push the Blue Hose lead to 6-4 after 6.5 innings.
- The Catamounts tallied a solo homer in the seventh to cut it to a 6-5 game after seven innings.
- PC pushed across a run via Jay Wetherington's RBI single in the eighth to make it 7-5.
- Western Carolina answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at seven before a wild pitch allowed WCU to pull ahead at 8-7.
- Boyd connected on an RBI single in the ninth to tie the game back at eight.
- The Blue Hose plated three in the 10th first with a two-run double from Jack Gorman before Chase Hughes's RBI single made it 11-8 for the Blue Hose. 
 
NOTABLES
- Gorman tallied his team-high 16th multi-hit game as he was one of six players to record multiple hits on Wednesday night.
- Toth with his two hits including his three-run double in the seventh pushed his hit streak to 19 games in a row.
- Wetherington picked up his 13th multi-hit contest, while Reeves with his two base hits has connected on at least one hit in 10 straight games.
- Boyd picked up a pair of base hits to go along with his team-high 10th multi-RBI game on Wednesday.
- Tanner Smith tossed a season-high three scoreless innings as he recorded a pair of strikeouts in his ninth appearance of the 2022 season.
- Senior Jordan Art allowed one unearned run with a season-high three strikeouts en route to his first win of the season.
- Saturday starter Duncan Howard needed just 12 pitches and added two strikeouts to earn the save.
- PC earned its first extra-inning win since February 20th when the Blue Hose downed UNF in 11 innings.
- The Blue Hose improved to 14-3 on Wednesday night when outhitting their opponents as PC pounded out 15 hits. Presbyterian improved to 7-0 when scored 10+ runs against opponents. 
 
 UP NEXT
 - PC will return home for a three-game series against James Madison with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the PC Baseball Complex. The series wraps up on Sunday at 1 p.m.
