SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Kicking off a new month with back-to-back shutouts to their early-season tally, Presbyterian and their ever-growing defensive fortitude will hope to keep their impressive preventative work going against Kennesaw State tomorrow night at home. The Owls, in a similar vein to PC, will search for their first win on the year after letting an 82
nd-minute goal slip away in their last appearance against Georgia State which resulted in a 2-2 tie.
KSU has conceded at least two goals in all but one of their meetings in 2022, falling to UAB by a 7-2 clip before deadlocking the Panthers at home. The Blue Hose will look for a W over the Owls for the first time in four attempts on Thursday, most recently taking a 3-1 setback in 2019 in the two programs' last bout. Kennesaw State will visit Clinton for the first time in 19 years tomorrow night, aiming to snap a three-game losing skid when playing in a true road environment.
After tussling with their Peach State adversary on Thursday, Presbyterian will wrap up the weekend with their second straight home contest versus The Citadel, competing against their in-state foe for the ninth time since joining the D-I ranks. The Bulldogs sit at 1-2 awaiting their third home match in a row on Friday against USC Upstate, sandwiching a win over UNC Asheville in between a pair of L's to Navy and Gardner-Webb.
Scoring twice in 270 minutes, having been shut out in the aforementioned losses before Friday's appearance against another Big South school, The Citadel will begin a three-game stretch away from Charleston on Sunday while hoping for a third straight win over the Blue Hose. Presbyterian took the first four meetings of the series from 2007-13 after bumping to D-I, however the last two have swayed in the other direction by a combined margin of 12-2.
LAST TIME OUT:
The PC defense has been the unquestionable highlight of the last two games for head coach
Brian Purcell's squad, reaching their third and fourth clean sheets of the past two years against both ETSU and Alabama State. Reeling off 23 shots in the stalemate with the Hornets, the Blue Hose could never find the precise placement that would have signaled the game-winner, although the same story unfolded on the opposite side as well thanks to PC's stout back line.
Dating back to the latter stages of the Davidson contest on August 21, Presbyterian has not allowed a single goal in 203 minutes of action as the nonconference portion of the schedule reached its halfway mark last Sunday. Thursday's date with Kennesaw State continues a streak of five out of six matches to take place at Martin Stadium.
