Men’s Wrestling Trots 13 Competitors to F&M Open, Takes 19 Overall Wins

LANCASTER, Pa. – Extending their stay in the Keystone State one extra night after a tri-dual with Franklin & Marshall and Brown yesterday afternoon, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling squad submitted their name to the 10th annual David H. Lehman F&M Open on Friday, completing an exhaustive stretch of action that included over 500 grapplers in a timeline that eclipsed nine hours. PC and program director Mark Cody included themselves among eight different weight classes at the jumbo event, going for 19 total W's as the sun set in Lancaster.

NOTABLES
- Seven Blue Hose members found at least two victories throughout the marathon tourney, although the highlight of the afternoon for Cody and company seemed to occur out of the 174-lb. class where redshirt-junior Zach Wells and true freshman Reed Douglass had their hands raised six times between them.

- Staying in the winner's bracket the longest of any Presbyterian performer in one of the most active areas for the sport's growing popularity, Wells – a native of Sterling Heights, Michigan – reached the quarterfinal round of the 39-entry field with three wins in a row all of a different variety. Taking down opponents from Sacred Heart, Air Force, and Kent State before eventually falling in the consolation round to Lock Haven's Tyler Stoltzfus, Wells bumped his season's win count to seven after missing the first month of the campaign due to injury.

- Speaking of returning from an injury-related absence, Douglass accomplished that feat on Friday in the same core as Wells, picking up where he'd left off by defeating representatives from American University, Columbia, and Kent State to take his fourth, fifth, and sixth wins on the season.

- Dominic Chavez, Jacob Brasseur, Trenton Donahue, Tyler Chittum, and Cordel Duhart would all go for two W's before the end of the mammoth tournament, amassing five pinfalls amongst themselves over five different schools. When taking into account the team's split result versus F&M and Brown just 24 hours ago in a dual setting, both Chittum and Donahue ended PC's northern excursion with four wins in two days, helping the Blue Hose garner 91 victories altogether since the Princeton Open on November 6.

UP NEXT
PC's second-ever appearance in the F&M Open noted the final time until postseason territory that the Blue Hose will appear in a multi-team environment, strictly involved in Southern Conference duals from here on out. Coach Cody's group has already enacted their SoCon debut – on December 16 at Davidson – and will be forced to wait 16 more days before they return to the league side of the schedule.

It will be another two-for-one special on Sunday, January 22 when PC comes back to the Templeton Center for the second time on the season, playing host to VMI and The Citadel in a special conference three-way just over two weeks from now. Four of the seven SoCon dates left on the road to the league championships will take place in Clinton.
