Women’s Hoops Central: Presbyterian vs. ETSU

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team finishes their three game homestand on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Templeton Center against the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers.

Opening Tip
The Blue Hose continue their stretch of home games with a game against ETSU on Sunday, November 19. PC earned their first two wins of the season at home against Johnson C. Smith (76-40) followed by CIU (95-43).
 
Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU has a 2-1 record so far this season with wins over Lafayette and Radford. The Buccaneers are led by Courtney Moore who has recorded 41 points with a 47.1 field goal percentage over the first three games of the season. Moore also leads the team with eight made three-pointers and a 42.1 three-point percentage. Jakhyia Davis leads the team in rebounds with six offensive boards and 16 defensive boards. Kendall Folley leads the team in both assists (eight) and steals (five).
 
PC Defeats CIU
The Blue Hose won their second straight game defeating Columbia International 95-43. The team recorded a season high of 60 rebounds, 28 assists, and 95 points. Five PC players totaled double-figure points and shot 51.4% from the field. Bryanna Brady led the team with 18 points which is her new season-high. Nuria Cunill had a season-high of eight rebounds and Ashley Carrillo posted a high of seven assists.
 
PC Defeats JCSU
The Blue Hose earned their first win after defeating JCSU 76-40 in their home opener while three players hit double-figure points. Bryanna Brady (17), Aubrie Kierscht (16), and Ashley Carrillo (13) all recorded season-highs in Saturday's game. PC totaled 17 assists with efforts from nine different players.

PC is scheduled to play 31 contests under the direction of sixth year head coach Alaura Sharp during the 2023-24 season, including 16 league games which begin on January 3rd at home. The Blue Hose are slated to make trips to Kansas, Wilmington, Cullowhee, Charlotte, Columbia, and Las Vegas in non-conference play while welcoming Johnson C. Smith, CIU, ETSU, Morehead State, North Carolina Central, Queens, South Carolina, and Columbia College (S.C.) to Clinton. Presbyterian will play eight home-homes with the league in 2024, beginning with Charleston Southern on January 3.
 
Returning Letterwinners
The Blue Hose return all five starters and 13 letterwinners off last season's team. Sixth year center Bryanna Brady (9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg) who earned a spot on Second Team All-Conference, senior guards Christina Kline (3.6 ppg, 2.3 rpg) and Laila Grant (5.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg), and junior guards Paige Kindseth (3.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg), Mara Neira (9.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.2 apg), and sophomore guards Aubrie Kierscht (8.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg), Tilda Sjokvist (8.2 ppg, 3.4 apg), Ashley Carrillo (3.4 ppg 2.7 rpg). Kierscht and Sjokvist earned spots on the league's All-Freshman Team. Seniors forward Dagne Apsite, guard Sonia Sato, and sophomores guard Natalie Herrin, forward Dennaye Hinds round out the Blue Hose returning letterwinners.
 
Sharp Welcomes Coach Thomas
Presbyterian College and head women's basketball coach Alaura Sharp announced the addition of coach Caleb Thomas to her staff which finalizes the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Thomas spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech spending time on video/film evaluation along with scouting reports and recruiting. He spent time as a player development assistant as he constructed individual guard workouts based on personnel and offensive scheme. He also spent time working with daily practice facility prep along with game-day operations. Thomas was a key component in both official and unofficial visits to campus helping to facilitate for the Louisiana Tech program. He also had a hand in helping prepare social media content for various accounts. On the court, Thomas was a part of the 2021-22 West Division Champions at Louisiana Tech and the program also totaled the most league wins in program history. He finished his graduate studies with a Master's in Health Informatics (MHI) at Louisiana Tech this past year.
