Women’s Basketball Tips Off 2023-24 Season on Monday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team begins the 2023-24 season on Monday night as the Blue Hose travel to Kansas State for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip against the Wildcats on ESPN+.

Opening Tip
Presbyterian College begins the 2023-24 season on Monday with a trip to Manhattan, KS for their first of two away games to start the season. In PC's last on court action during the 2022-23 season, the Presbyterian College women's basketball team faced the Radford Highlanders in the Big South Quarterfinals, where they lost after a buzzer beater layup with a score of 69-68.
 
Opening Games
The Blue Hose are 22-24 all-time in season openers, but just 3-13 since moving to Division 1 for the 2007-08 campaign. This season marks the first time that PC has faced Kansas State in the Blue Hose DI history. Last season, Presbyterian defeated Carolina University at home for the season opener. Another season-opening victory since moving to Division I happened in the 2012-13 season when the Blue Hose defeated Clemson which kicked off a DI era-best 19-win season for PC.

PC is scheduled to play 31 contests under the direction of sixth year head coach Alaura Sharp during the 2023-24 season, including 16 league games which begin on January 3rd at home. The Blue Hose are slated to make trips to Kansas, Wilmington, Cullowhee, Charlotte, Columbia, and Las Vegas in non-conference play while welcoming Johnson C. Smith, CIU, ETSU, Morehead State, North Carolina Central, Queens, South Carolina, and Columbia College (S.C.) to Clinton. Presbyterian will play eight home-homes with the league in 2024, beginning with Charleston Southern on January 3.
 
Scouting the Wildcats
This year, Kansas State has been ranked in fourth place for the preseason poll by the Big 12 Conference. The Wildcats are led by Graduate Student Guard Gabby Gregory (18.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.0 apg), Junior Guard Serena Sundell (13.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 5.1 apg, 0.72 bpg), and Junior Guard Jaelyn Glenn (11.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.1 apg).
 
Returning Letterwinners
The Blue Hose return all five starters and 13 letterwinners off last season's team. Sixth year center Bryanna Brady (9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg) who earned a spot on Second Team All-Conference, senior guards Christina Kline (3.6 ppg, 2.3 rpg) and Laila Grant (5.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg), and junior guards Paige Kindseth (3.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg), Mara Neira (9.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.2 apg), and sophomore guards Aubrie Kierscht (8.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg), Tilda Sjokvist (8.2 ppg, 3.4 apg), Ashley Carrillo (3.4 ppg 2.7 rpg). Kierscht and Sjokvist earned spots on the league's All-Freshman Team. Seniors forward Dagne Apsite, guard Sonia Sato, and sophomores guard Natalie Herrin, forward Dennaye Hinds round out the Blue Hose returning letterwinners.
 
Sharp Welcomes Coach Thomas
Presbyterian College and head women's basketball coach Alaura Sharp announced the addition of coach Caleb Thomas to her staff which finalizes the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Thomas spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech spending time on video/film evaluation along with scouting reports and recruiting. He spent time as a player development assistant as he constructed individual guard workouts based on personnel and offensive scheme. He also spent time working with daily practice facility prep along with game-day operations. Thomas was a key component in both official and unofficial visits to campus helping to facilitate for the Louisiana Tech program. He also had a hand in helping prepare social media content for various accounts. On the court, Thomas was a part of the 2021-22 West Division Champions at Louisiana Tech and the program also totaled the most league wins in program history. He finished his graduate studies with a Master's in Health Informatics (MHI) at Louisiana Tech this past year.
