Presbyterian Falls to USC Upstate in Home Finale

CLINTON, S.C.  –The Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-25, Big South: 1-16) lost to the USC Upstate Spartans (14-14, Big South: 9-8), 59-57, in their final home game of the season on Wednesday evening.
 
Prior to the start of the game, the Blue Hose honored seniors Owen McCormack, Jack McMahon, and Winston Hill.
 
Trevon Reddish-Rhone led the Blue Hose with 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds.. Jalen Forrest scored 10 points. Crosby James scored nine points off the bench. McCormack scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds. Marquis Barnett scored eight points and grabbed six boards.
  
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Behind the scoring of Reddish-Rhone, Forrest, and Barnett, the Blue Hose began the game scoring 10 of the first 13 points. The Spartans scored four straight points cutting PC's lead to 10-7 eight minutes into the game. Presbyterian answered with eight straight points with scoring from Barnett, Reddish-Rhone, and McCormack pushing their lead to 18-7 at the 6:37 mark. USC Upstate scored seven of the next nine points cutting PC's lead to 20-14 with 3:39 left on the clock. A layup by Terrell Ard, Jr. and a dunk from Barnett gave the Blue Hose a 10-point lead. The Spartans scored five straight points. With four seconds on the clock, McCormack knocked down a three from the wing giving the Blue Hose a 27-19 halftime lead.  
 
SECOND HALF – Presbyterian scored the first three points of the half increasing their lead to 30-19. USC Upstate scored four straight points cutting the Blue Hose's lead to seven points. Forrest scored inside moving the Blue Hose in front by nine points, 32-23, with 16:55 on the clock. The Spartans scored eight straight points cutting Presbyterian's lead to 32-31 just a little over a minute and a half later. Reddish-Rhone ended USC Upstate's scoring run with five straight points.  Presbyterian maintained a lead of 5-8 points for the next six minutes. After two made free throws apiece from James and Reddish-Rhone, Presbyterian increased their lead to 51-39 with 8:16 on the clock. USC Upstate scored nine of the next 11 points cutting Presbyterian's lead to 53-48 with just under six minutes left in the half. Barnett scored inside giving the Blue Hose a seven-point lead, 55-48, at the 5:21 mark. USC Upstate scored 11 of the game's final 13 points to win the game, 59-57.
 

NOTES
  • Presbyterian scored 30 points in the paint.
  • Reddish-Rhone's 16 points marked his sixth double-figure scoring game of the season and the 29th of his career.
  • Forrest tallied his 15th double-figure scoring game of the season with 10 points.
