Last Stop on 25-Day Road Trip Sends Lacrosse to Queens on Saturday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team is nearing the conclusion of a prolonged sequence of consecutive contests away from their home venue, encapsulating nearly the entire month of March as nonconference competition dwindles down. Game no. four in that arduous stretch (that has thus far given PC a 2-1 record) will take place this weekend in the Tar Heel State, facing off with Queens at noon on ESPN+.

Scheduling the Royals through the first year of their opponent's membership among the D-I caliber, Presbyterian hopes to regain a palpable sense of momentum that permeated across two straight clutch victories over Akron and Kent State last week, serving as a prelude to Wednesday's visit to Clemson that ended in a 20-4 win for the 22nd-ranked Tigers.

Saturday's clash in Charlotte represents the final pre-Big South date on head coach Eric Clakeley's radar, preparing for nine straight league matchups starting in the middle of next week versus Wofford in the long-awaited Clinton return. For now, however, the Blue Hose turn their attention to a largely-unfamiliar foe who stands at four wins and four losses.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Queens catapults into the D-I level after a season for the ages in 2022, departing the South Atlantic Conference with an appearance in the National Semifinals as an undefeated squad going in, dropping an overtime heartbreaker to East Stroudsburg that left the Royals at 21-1 with a Final Four tag alongside them.

- While not quite as dominant in the transition to the ASUN, head coach Kelly McQuilkin's roster has nonetheless adjusted nicely after an 0-3 stumble, turning the tables to ride a four-game winning streak (besting three Big South clubs in that span) on a minimum 15 goals in each of those bouts.

- The Royals' high spirits were partly diminished in their last go-around on the 18th, running into the end of that streak in an 11-10 setback against Robert Morris, a duel that put Queens down by four with 14 minutes to go. Three straight goals in the last six and a half minutes made the comeback try more interesting, although unable to reach the summit of the rally when the final horn sounded.

LAST TIME OUT
- Despite numerous bright spots by the Blue Hose against a well-rounded group firmly into the IWLCA nationwide poll, PC was defeated by Clemson in the midweek skirmish thanks to a gang of five Tigers who netted at least two scores. Presbyterian was able to gather a trio of strikes in the 3rd, although the hole was too large to climb out of in the end.

- Now sitting at 3-4 with just two outings taking place at home, coach Clakeley's unit looks to build on a tough strength of schedule where his roster has reached a double-digit scoring output four times. Abby Edmisten and Willow Hammond synced up for all four of PC's connections at Clemson, three of which were handled by the former to give her 19 on the year.

- 55 percent of Presbyterian's goal count has been published off the stick of either Hammond or Edmisten, finding 10 performances between them with more than one strike in a single affair. Edmisten – the reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Week, an award she's received four times in her career and twice this season – has grabbed six straight multi-goal efforts dating back to February 22, a new career-best for PC's second-place all-time goal-getter (108 and counting).
