Blue Hose Go Under the Lights for Wednesday Wofford Tussle

CLINTON, S.C. – Finally back in the friendly confines of Bailey Memorial Stadium – a venue that hasn't served as the site for a regular season bout in nearly an entire month – the Presbyterian College lacrosse team opens the lid on the 2023 Big South slate tomorrow evening by welcoming in nearby Wofford at 7:00 p.m.

After enduring a four-game road stretch that began on March 14 and has lasted until now, the Blue Hose and fourth-year head coach Eric Clakeley will enjoy the luxury of home outings over three of their next four events, beginning with a Terrier opponent who makes the short drive to Clinton sporting the same overall record as PC (3-5) awaiting league game no. one.

Since becoming conference mates five years ago, the Palmetto State rivals have matched up with each other on a yearly basis, with Wofford breaking a 2-2 series tie last spring in a 13-12 Spartanburg thriller that saw a 4th-quarter stalemate broken open by consecutive goals just over one minute apart.

WHO: Presbyterian (3-5) vs. Wofford (3-5)

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Predicted to place seventh in the Big South following a 5-11 campaign in 2022 and a 3-6 trek when competing in league territory, the Terriers have found the bulk of their success away from Gibbs Stadium this year (2-2 in road encounters), recently claiming a 17-13 victory at Akron exactly one week back.

- Many similarities have arisen between the Blue Hose and their Wednesday foe over the first month and a half of the season, battling five mutual nonconference opponents while sharing W's over the Zips (PC bested Akron to kick off the aforementioned road sequence by a 10-9 clip). Losing each of their first four, Wofford's staggered start has flipped considerably by only tasting defeat once since March 5.

- Failing to break double digits once in losses to Clemson, Lehigh, Boston University, and East Carolina, head coach Jessie Aguglia's squad noticeably ramped up their offensive production in a hurry, reaching at least 15 goals in all of their wins which includes consecutive one-goal triumphs over Xavier and Kennesaw State.

LAST TIME OUT
- Presbyterian has harnessed some late-game magic as well over various points of the nonconference slate, finding their last W against the Golden Flashes of Kent State just 48 hours after downing Akron. In that bout, the Blue Hose responded from a seven-goal opening frame by the other side to steadily climb back from a four-goal deficit, earning an 11-10 decision in their favor.

- Since those back-to-back wins across the state of Ohio, PC has found themselves against high-quality competition still as the visitors, locking horns with 22nd-ranked Clemson last Wednesday and a Queens team that posted a Division II Final Four appearance last spring. Neither of those results tilted toward the Blue Hose, unable to defeat the Royals despite a career-best four strikes by sophomore attacker Willow Hammond.

- Through eight non-league matchups on the calendar, Presbyterian has garnered a 3-1 mark when hitting at least 10 scores in a single affair, searching for their first win over Wofford since 2021 in a 16-9 finish that saw eight Blue Hose goals in either half, a result that also still stands as the largest margin of victory in the series.
