Lacrosse Heads to Farmville for 10:00 AM Tussle at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – Just one game back of a spot that allows access to the Big South Tournament two weeks from now, the Presbyterian College lacrosse team hopes to regain momentum tomorrow afternoon with urgency mode in full effect, taking on Longwood at 10:00 AM on Saturday. The league meeting will be broadcasted live through ESPN+ as the Blue Hose aim to stay above .500 in division play.

Coming up on the short end of consecutive home bouts despite a goal count of 24 combined against High Point and Gardner-Webb over their most recent trips, Presbyterian looks to right the ship over the weekend against a Lancer squad that has stumbled to a 1-5 Big South mark. PC captured their first ever victory in Farmville during their last visit in 2021, a 12-11 thriller that came right down to the wire.

Currently tied with Wofford for the #5 spot in the conference standings, although in possession of the tiebreaker in that scenario thanks to a 12-8 victory over the Terriers in the very first league contest of the semester, the Blue Hose will prep for what could be their sixth win away from Clinton in 2023 against a Longwood club with just one home W to their credit.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Off to a terrific start thanks to consecutive one-score triumphs against George Mason and Kennesaw State, the Lancers have faltered mightily since that point with just a single check in the win column since mid-February (a 12-11 overtime battle versus Gardner-Webb). Longwood has featured in five contests to be decided by two scores or less, including a double-OT defeat at the hands of Wofford that immediately followed the G-W barnburner.

- Last seen in the Commonwealth State dropping a 20-14 decision to High Point – who would go on to continue that momentum and best PC in the Panthers' next go-around – Longwood suffered an eight-goal setback to Campbell in their last appearance on the 15th, one of two schools in the Big South (alongside Mercer) to remain undefeated in league territory.

- Guided by head coach Kylar Ferguson in her first year affiliated with the program, the Lancers have produced a double-digit scoring total in each conference meeting except one (an 18-5 setback to a Mercer unit that hasn't tasted defeat in a full month).

LAST TIME OUT
- Never fully in front despite fighting back from a three-score hole in the first half and a four-goal deficit with seven minutes to go, the Blue Hose seemed as if overtime was imminent on Wednesday night against the Runnin' Bulldogs, although a free position try with 28 seconds left fell into the grasp of G-W keeper Danielle Burke that completed the stunner.

- In the penultimate game of the spring to take place at Bailey Memorial Stadium, PC was given a profitable chance at the win behind a six-goal performance from senior Abby Edmisten, a figure that gives her 155 points over a four-year tenure (the second-most ever from a Blue Hose member).

- However, the would-be comeback fell shy of completion to denote Presbyterian's first loss of the campaign by a single score, having previously won by that same margin on four separate occasions this year.

- Head coach Eric Clakeley's lineup will look to avenge a 15-8 loss to the Lancers in the two sides' last encounter from Clinton in 2022. PC's lone victory in the all-time series – the aforementioned '21 result – amounted to their largest offensive day (12 goals) in their history versus the Lancers, a number that they've already reached in four different matchups this season.
