PC In Search of First Big South W, Battling Radford on Wednesday/Thursday

CLINTON, S.C. – Taking place slightly earlier than expected due to an unfavorable weather forecast on the horizon, the Presbyterian College softball squad gets set for a rather quick turnaround to Big South series #3 with the Radford Highlanders coming to town. In a shift from PC's prior two sets in league territory, tomorrow's opener will be solely Game 1, transitioning to a Thursday two-parter that will wrap up the series.

Looking to regain their footing after being on the receiving end of a Campbell sweep over the weekend, Presbyterian will match up with their Virginia visitors in what will be the 41st meeting between the two schools on Wednesday. Three of the past four contests against Radford have ended with a check in the win column for head coach David Williams, who needs just three more W's to reach 100 in his Blue Hose tenure.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- It's mostly been a mixed bag for the Highlanders in 2023, sporting a 10-20 overall mark with a singular win against a fellow league rep in six tries (a 6-0 blanking of Charleston Southern at the halfway point of last weekend's set in the Commonwealth State). Radford's other Big South excursion in a visiting capacity versus Winthrop ended in an ultra-rare occurrence, with the exact same score at the end of each bout (2-1) that all favored the Eagles.

- In 13 meetings where they've featured in a true road scope, head coach Alisa Tasler's club has only come out on top once (albeit with a 6-6 venture in neutral-site encounters). The Highlanders have recorded a season-high seven runs in five separate contests, the last of which occurred in a one-score W against Western Carolina preceding the CSU set.

LAST TIME OUT
- Certainly holding the capability to end their recent offensive lulls, as evidenced by 35 doubles, 23 homers, and 101 runs batted in collectively, the Blue Hose find themselves needing to dig out of an 0-5 hole in league action where pitching has been a necessity over mostly low-scoring stretches.

- Winners of their first 11 bouts to be held at the PC Softball Complex with three more victories at the venue since then, coach Williams' unit looks to shake the cobwebs off their last home appearance against Longwood that ended in 2-1 and 4-0 results that tipped toward the Lancers.

- Sophomore rightfielder Morgan Hess remains in the lead across all players in the Big South with 10 longballs (ranking inside the nation's top 30), placing third in total slugging percentage (.671) that has led to a team-high 24 RBI and 57 total bases.

- Jenna Greene and Hess have served as Presbyterian's go-to pitchers with 15 games to go on the docket, adding up for 182 strikeouts on an opposing batting average of .233. That tandem, along with freshman Peyton Duncan in relief, has limited the opposition for 16 games of giving up two runs or fewer including seven shutouts.
