HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Freshman phenom May Cuyler of the seventh-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling team continued an immaculate start to her Blue Hose career on Monday night, winning a first-place crown at the famed Midlands Championships just outside of Chicago.

Eight PC grapplers represented head coach Brian Vutianitis at the NOW Arena for the 60^th edition of the Midlands bracket, where Cuyler (160) boosted her outstanding personal record to 16-1.

Fellow newbie Carina Giangeruso earned a bronze trinket on Monday by winning back-to-back consolation-round matches, allowing Presbyterian to tally 18 individual W's in all.

Cuyler's first three victories came by either technical fall or pin, snatching the gold prize in a highly-competitive decision over North Central's Tiera Jimerson (10-7).

In fact, there were 13 matches between PC and a North Central opponent in the Windy City. Both programs have become a mainstay in the NWCA national top ten.


 
NOTABLES
 
- Just two months into their collegiate careers, Giangeruso and Cuyler have added up for 30 wins and only three losses. They've pinned a combined 13 opponents since November, collecting eight other wins via tech.

- In all four tournaments that Presby has been a part of, Cuyler has taken home the 160-lb. championship. She's gone a perfect 15-0 in those tourneys, rapidly rising up the ranks where she currently sits as the #4 wrestler in America for her weight class.

- Elsewhere among PC's Midlands successes, sophomore Alyssa Mahan (124) picked up her 13^th win of the campaign in the consolation side, emerging as the victor in a 7-6 see-saw to claim 5^th place.

- Junior Paige Wehrmeister assumed her 15^th personal W of the semester over Lindenwood's Rebecca Strong 7-0, good enough to secure 6^th place on the grand stage.

- Cuyler gave the Blue Hose their 17^th individual title of the year already, scooping at least four gold's in the three prior tournaments before Midlands.
