PC Plays at Home for Final Time in ’24; Welcomes Winthrop on Wednesday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team has entered their final week of the 2024 regular season, prepping for home match number eight and away match number eight over the next four days. Winthrop will stroll into town tomorrow for the Bailey Memorial Stadium closer, planned for 5:00 PM.

ESPN+ will have live coverage of the Big South Conference affair, a Palmetto State showcase between two clubs searching for some late-season momentum.

Wednesday will denote the 14th all-time encounter between the Blue Hose and the Eagles, a series where PC picked up its first-ever victory over Winthrop 12 months ago in Rock Hill.

The end result for tomorrow's battle will be the second league win for either side, with Presby afterward transitioning from their home finale to a Wofford visit for the incoming weekend.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- It's been a struggle for the Eagles in year three for head coach Kara Concheck, as Winthrop limped to a winless mark in non-conference terrain while approaching tomorrow's contest with a six-match losing streak.

- A couple of those L's went down to the wire, however, falling by an 11-8 clip to Radford that began that sequence and a 19-15 setback at Longwood.

- In Winthrop's last three showings, they were handed a 20-16 defeat against Wofford, a 16-9 decision versus Furman, and most recently a 22-5 drubbing against Big South powerhouse Mercer.

- Wednesday will serve as an early season-closer for the Eagles, displaying their lone divisional win over Gardner-Webb (13-8) back on March 27.

LAST TIME OUT

- Abby Edmisten, Kylie Sullivan, Juliana San Lucas, Lily Clawson, and Emma Foard were all recognized in a pregame ceremony for Senior Day in PC's last appearance against Radford, although the Highlanders spoiled the party with a 16-6 triumph at Bailey Memorial.

- Sullivan and Clawson accounted for half of Presby's goal count in the loss, while a freshman trio built up the rest of the scoring (Kaylie Rittmueller, Emma Claire Mills, and Lauren Gray).

- When the Blue Hose last met Winthrop 12 months back, then-sophomore Willow Hammond cooked up a career-best performance by scoring six times in an 11-10 thriller. Up by one at intermission, PC was even with the Eagles in the final 30 minutes which allowed them to hold on to their third Big South W of 2023.

- Hammond and Sullivan have posted 42 goals and eight additional assists between them, with Edmisten following closely at 17. Meanwhile, second-year defenseman Avery West has assembled the largest number of caused turnovers on the roster (27), alongside another team-high 39 ground ball pickups.
