PC Prepares for Paladins on Saturday Afternoon

CLINTON, S.C. – A lunchtime matinee awaits the Presbyterian College lacrosse team in what will be the squad's second consecutive home bout and sixth overall, taking on Furman from Bailey Memorial Stadium this Saturday.

Opening draw against PC's Greenville neighbors is planned for noon, with ESPN+ providing streaming coverage for the event.

Looking to get their groove back following an 0-2 start to Big South territory, the Blue Hose were last seen in an offensive race against Longwood last weekend. A 16-13 tally separated the Lancers from a contest that was tied at the half, despite the Scotsmen hitting their highest goal-count in Clinton since the 2022 season starter.

Furman will visit head coach Eric Clakeley's club for the second straight campaign, serving as the closer a year ago and a bout where the Paladins pulled away (16-11). That was the closest margin between the two schools throughout their six-game history, a series where Furman is undefeated.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- Although three games under .500 altogether, Furman has begun to catch fire at the right time by claiming a W in three of their last four appearances. The only dip in that sequence came against 11th-ranked Florida, beginning league play by defeating Wofford and Gardner-Webb.

- The Paladins outlasted the Terriers in a 12-10 barnburner back on March 27, segueing into a 21-9 beatdown over G-W in their most recent showing six days ago.

- Reaching a season-high in total goals, Furman banged in seven scores in the first period alone, staying ahead by a wide margin thanks to 10 second-half strikes.

- Sophia Buzelis and Hannah Dintino accounted for nine of Furman's connections as they trounced the Runnin' Bulldogs, although junior Anna Roser carries the torch for the Paladins offensively with an individual tally of 35 goals (the most of anyone in the Big South).

- Lauren Farber, a former player with the university and 2022 graduate, is serving as Furman's interim head coach, following up a 7-2 league resume last spring with another solid beginning to the divisional domain.

LAST TIME OUT

- Administering their highest goal-count against a conference opponent since blowing out Radford in Virginia 12 months ago, Presbyterian's scorching start last weekend wasn't enough to dispel Longwood, a day where PC was outgunned 8-5 over the final two periods.

- Super-senior Abby Edmisten (already the program's all-time leader in both goals and total points) went for three scores after returning to the fray from a two-game injury layoff. Additionally, freshman Kaylie Rittmueller found her first three-goal effort while also dishing out a couple of assists.

- That's the first time that any PC rookie has offered up a five-point performance since 2018, another signifier of Presby's excellent youth on display.

- Eight different bodies hit the back of the net for Clakeley's crew, matching the team's highest single-quarter goal production of the season by securing six first-period strikes.

- Preseason all-leaguer Willow Hammond was in the midst of a season-closing heater when PC last locked horns with Furman, racking up a quartet of goals in this matchup last April. All of them came during either the 3rd or 4th period, a second half where the Paladins narrowly edged out the Blue Hose at 8-7.

- Another clear case of Presbyterian's surging underclassmen, sophomore Avery West has proven to be very efficient on the defensive end. The Texan ranks third in the conference in both ground ball recoveries (30) and caused turnovers (21).
