CLINTON, S.C. – For the first time since 2019, the Presbyterian College football team will enjoy the luxury of three straight home games as Virginia-Lynchburg visits Bailey Memorial Stadium for the third consecutive year. Kickoff is tabbed for 1:00 PM on ESPN+.
The Blue Hose will aim for their second straight victory after downing Erskine last Saturday 31-14, looking for the second sequence of back-to-back wins in head coach
Steve Englehart's tenure.
A victory over the Dragons would be the fifth straight win in a home-opener for Presbyterian (dating back to the abbreviated Spring '21 slate), a number which would be the most for PC since the turn of the 21
st century.
The last four home-openers for the Scotsmen ended as follows:
Spring 2021 – def. Morehead State, 31-16
Fall 2021 – def. St. Andrews, 84-43
2022 – def. Virginia-Lynchburg, 21-13
2023 – def. Virginia-Lynchburg, 48-17

PFL Weekly Report
UPDATED STADIUM POLICY
• For the 2024 season, beer and wine will be sold throughout Bailey Memorial Stadium. Patrons purchasing beer or wine will be carded at the point of sale. Per regulation, beer and wine sales will end at the conclusion of the third quarter.
• The possession of alcohol while entering Bailey Memorial Stadium is expressly prohibited. Patrons in violation will be ejected and may be subject to arrest. In an effort to encourage an enjoyable experience for all fans, persons who are intoxicated will be denied entry into the stadium, regardless of ticket possession.
OPPONENT PROFILE
• A program struggling to find its footing in recent times, Virginia-Lynchburg will visit Bailey Memorial Stadium on Saturday with a single win over the past three seasons of competition.
• The Dragons have fallen victim to Presbyterian in each of the last two seasons (21-13 in '22 and 48-17 twelve months ago), beginning this particular journey with consecutive losses against Wagner and Livingstone.
• Head coach Tim Newman's roster has been held to single-digits in points across both of those contests, finishing the season-opener with -16 yards in the rushing game. They were also flung below zero in rushing yards when they last locked horns with PC, a game where the second half was 28-7 Blue Hose.
• When VUL last faced coach Englehart's gang, Presby dominated up front to the tune of seven sacks (tying the third-most in one game since PC made the D-I jump). Altogether, the Dragons were wrestled down in the backfield 11 times in the 31-point runaway.
SPRINTING SWITZER
• Statistically the best kick-returner at the FCS level through the first eight quarters of the season, senior running back
Zach Switzer has assembled a nation-leading 303 KOR yards on 10 attempts.
• Starting the season off with 191 kick-return yards at Mercer (the most of anyone in FCS since October '23), the Tennesseean raced 90 yards to the house against Erskine near the close of the 2nd quarter.
• Switzer is one of just three players in FCS (and nine when factoring in FBS programs) to have a kickoff returned for a touchdown this year. His TD against the Flying Fleet was the first time that a Blue Hose player charted a KOR score since the abbreviated 2021 campaign.
HERRIOTT SNATCHES BRONZE
• Presbyterian's leading tackler three years running, linebacker
Alex Herriott ascended further up the Blue Hose totem pole during a 31-14 win over Erskine, entering third place in the school's Division I history (since 2007) with 285 career tackles.
• A 1st-period stop by the Hanahan native pushed him past Jarrett Nagy and recently-inducted Big South Hall of Famer Justin Bethel, now just 15 tackles away from joining Colby Campbell (2017-20) and Donnelle Williams (2011-15) as the only PC players over the past 17 years to reach 300 career tackles.
• Herriott has averaged 90 tackles per season since arriving in Clinton back in 2021, adding his first-career interception to his resume in the Mercer meeting and never missing a game since suiting up as a freshman.
FIRST START = FIRST DUB
• Filling in for injured QB1 in the victory over the Flying Fleet, redshirt-freshman
Collin Hurst picked up the W in his first collegiate start. The Floridian completed 9-of-16 passes (56 percent) for 201 yards, connecting on each throw in the 1
st period and launching two touchdowns.
• Hurst's first toss of the night went for a 67-yard score to Switzer, going on to throw a 34-yarder to
Cincere Gill, a 25-yarder to
Deverious Abercrombie, and a 53-yarder to
Nathan Levicki.
AROUND THE PFL – WEEK THREE
• PFL teams went an impressive 7-3 during Week 2. Butler downed Missouri Valley Football Conference member Murray State on a late field goal. Drake's trip out west proved fruitful, as it walked off Eastern Washington in overtime.
• Butler's victory in Murray, Kentucky, was the first PFL vs. MVFC victory since Dayton defeated Indiana State during the 2019 season.
• Drake became the second team this season to win against the Big Sky Conference after San Diego defeated Cal Poly in Week 1.
• Jason Woodman, one of the PFL's first-year head coaches, improved to 2-0 this season with a home victory against Kentucky Christian.
• Dayton, Marist, Morehead State, and Stetson face FCS opposition in Week 3 and are on the road. Morehead State faces the toughest test when it meets a Top 10-ranked Montana squad. Marist looks to get into the win column at Patriot League foe Lafayette. Stetson travels to Southern Conference opponent Furman, while Dayton heads west to meet Indiana State.
