CLINTON, S.C. – A ferocious freshman last spring and now prepping for a sequel to that stout start,
Kasey Wolfe of the Presbyterian College softball team was ranked as the #15 best pitcher/utility dual threat player in the nation by D1 Softball on Tuesday morning.
The lone individual in the Big South to make the cut and one of only 10 players from a non-Power 4 league to be ranked inside the top 15 on this list, Wolfe carved a staunch reputation after just one season in Clinton.
PC begins the 2025 campaign on Friday, February 7 for a five-game invitational, beginning that sequence against Morehead State and Northern Kentucky back-to-back.
WOLFE WOWS
- Quickly becoming one of Presby's most dangerous weapons (both in the batter's box and in the circle), Wolfe became the second player in school history to be selected for Big South Freshman of the Week honors three times in a sole year.
- A native of nearby Spartanburg, she earned a spot on the 2024 All-Big South second team and All-Freshman roster. As a rookie, she started 29 outings at third-base and seven others at the DP spot, while mixing in her arm talent for 12 additional starts as a pitcher.
- Offensively, Wolfe ranked second on the club in RBI (23) and walks (22), slugging .383 and logging 37 hits in all. She cranked eight doubles next to three home runs, which complimented nicely to a 3.55 ERA.
- Her three Big South Freshman of the Week selections all came in a different month, combining for a .414 average over those 15 games.
- Arguably her biggest highlight came in early March, responsible for an 8
th-inning walk-off single that took down Wofford at home in what was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
- Other noteworthy moments came on a season-best three hits versus Tennessee Tech and four runs-batted-in during a blowout over South Carolina State. She landed at least two hits against nine separate opponents.
JACK OF ALL TRADES
- Kasey acquired five personal victories when going through pitching duties, tossing 98.2 innings and five complete games. Two of those seven-inning sequences came against conference foes, including a road win over Radford (May 3) where she boomed a two-run homer in the same contest.
- She struck out 62 batters across her freshman stint, going for a career-best 10 K's in a visit to Western Carolina. Her total ERA was good enough to sit inside the Big South's top ten, adding one save for good measure.
- Wolfe allowed a mere two scores in the first 15.2 innings of her Presbyterian career, shining in a limited capacity against NC State (April 20) with four punchouts in Raleigh.
