CLINTON, S.C. – Achieving two individual milestones during a major Big South series victory over Gardner-Webb, senior pitcher
Peyton Duncan of the Presbyterian College softball team has been named the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Duncan tossed 14.1 innings over the course of three games last week, striking out eight and posting a solid 2.93 ERA. The Blue Hose took two straight against G-W to win their first conference series on the road in three years.
During the second game in Boiling Springs (which was a 10-run blowout in Presby's favor), Duncan accomplished both her 300
th career strikeout and her 30
th personal win.
In the wake of the Webb wins, PC has positioned themselves higher up on the league ladder with two series still to go. Yesterday,
Hali Duke and
Ava Coggins were voted as the Big South Player and Freshman of the Week respectively.
DUNCAN ON 'EM
- A native of North Carolina, Peyton threw 7.2 total innings throughout the Gardner-Webb set as she picked up her third personal win against a conference foe this spring.
- The finale was a strong contender for the wackiest game of the year, featuring 21 combined runs and 34 hits. In that high-octane affair, Duncan pitched three innings of relief and conceded only one earned run.
- Presbyterian currently holds the second-lowest staff ERA in the Big South (4.39), with Duncan the most experienced player in that group. She has started 17 contests during her final year, collecting nine wins and 77 strikeouts.
- Duncan joins three other Blue Hose pitchers who have logged at least 300 K's in the Division I era (2008 onward). The others are Jenna Greene (2020-24), Leslie Hensley (2009-12), and Kensley Loudermelk (2012-15).
- Additionally, Peyton has now tied Sydney Seigler (2013-16) for the fourth-most wins in school history. Saturday was her 28
th complete game since joining the program.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Duncan will be one of six Blue Hose seniors to play their final home series this weekend, hosting Charleston Southern for a single game on Friday and a 1:00 doubleheader the next afternoon.
- ESPN+ will be on site for all three matchups, as PC hopes to clinch a top-five spot in the upcoming conference tournament.
- The Big South takes all but two schools to the league bracket, with CSU currently on the outside looking in. Presby is 5-7 versus conference opponents, a record that would grant them a ticket to the tourney if it started today.
GAME ONE
- The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One – an official team dealer for Adidas – on a multi-year apparel agreement in November of 2022. PC's partnership with Adidas began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.
- Game One is among the country's largest and fastest-growing sports equipment and apparel suppliers, serving a loyal customer base of 13,000 schools and organizations in 38 states.
