CLINTON, S.C. – Perhaps the most improved athlete on a squad that has national championship aspirations, sophomore
Kassey Daugherty of the Presbyterian College women's wrestling team has been selected as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Currently ranked ninth in the nation for the 131-lb. weight class, Daugherty went 4-0 at the NWCA National Duals tournament last weekend. She is now riding a 20-match winning streak and holds an overall record of 25-3 this season.
With Daugherty's aid, the sixth-seeded Blue Hose finished in 5
th place at the tourney in Iowa by going 4-1 over two days (each of those opponents were also in the top 25). PC sports a 16-3 record in dual competition and has also acquired nine tournament championships from eight different wrestlers throughout the winter.
DAUGHERTY DOING WORK
- The weekend prior to the NWCA Nationals Duals, Daugherty wrangled in her first tournament title at the Red Lady Open in Alabama by cruising to a 5-0 mark. That put her in the national top 10 for the first time in her college career.
- She has only continued to blossom since then, winning 89 percent of her matches over the entire campaign.
- On Friday, the Virginia native competed against #23 Lindenwood, #4 Grand Valley State, and #5 King. She won each of those encounters with a 10-0 technical, a 5-0 standard decision, and another 13-2 tech.
- Presbyterian ended up facing Lindenwood again for the right to 5
th place on Saturday, and Daugherty picked up another 10-0 TF to help the Scotsmen secure a seven-point victory.
- No wrestler on PC's roster has calculated more technical falls than Daugherty (17). Nearly 70 percent of her overall wins this year have come by at least 10 points.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Reigning Southeast Region Coach of the Year
Brian Vutianitis has his squad with a win in 12 of their last 13 encounters. Presby hopes to stay hot this Sunday when hosting a 2:00 tri-dual against Allen University and McMurry.
- The Blue Hose have just three duals left on the 2026 calendar and two other tournaments before the postseason rears its head. They've hit at least 40 team points in nine of their 16 wins thus far.
GAME ONE
- The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One – an official team dealer for Adidas – on a multi-year apparel agreement in November of 2022. PC's partnership with Adidas began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.
- Game One is among the country's largest and fastest-growing sports equipment and apparel suppliers, serving a loyal customer base of 13,000 schools and organizations in 38 states.
