MARIETTA, Ga. – The seventh-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling team resumed their ultra-busy January schedule on Wednesday evening for back-to-back meetings against Lindsey Wilson and NAIA powerhouse Life University, winning the first (31-14) and falling in the nightcap (34-10).
PC has now entered double digits in the win column with a 10-3 overall mark, winning their fourth in a row over Lindsey Wilson after claiming fifth place at the NWCA National Duals Tournament last weekend.
Head coach
Brian Vutianitis' crew needed to bounce back from a 13-1 deficit after the first three bouts against the Blue Raiders, answering the call emphatically by going on a 30-1 flurry.
Sophomore
Alyssa Mahan and freshman
Kassey Daugherty each logged a pin during that avalanche, while the trio of
Carina Giangeruso,
Paige Wehrmeister, and
May Cuyler all added to the comeback with technical fall's.
The Life encounter was a bit of a different story, unable to take down an opponent with numerous NAIA All-Americans on their roster and falling behind early once more.
Wehrmeister became the second Blue Hose wrestler to reach the 20-win threshold this year by besting Christina Jane with a 10-0 tech, her 12
th victory by at least 10 points which leads all others on PC's lineup.
Mahan was the other bright spark in the Life matchup, churning out an 11-8 decision over All-American Anna Krejsa near the midway point of the contest.
