Softball Starts 2025 Trek with Five Games Against Three Opponents

CLINTON, S.C. – One first-time meeting, two double-features, and three visitors will make up the opening weekend of the 2025 season for the Presbyterian College softball team, unscrewing the lid on a 52-game journey tomorrow afternoon.

Hosting the Pinnacle Blue Hose Invitational, head coach David Williams will begin his seventh spring at PC by battling Morehead State and Northern Kentucky on Friday.

From there, the Scotsmen will face off with George Washington on Saturday before a second meeting with the Norse immediately thereafter. The round robin tournament will close on Sunday as Presby takes on Morehead for the second time.

Tomorrow's two-parter with MSU and NKU will be streamed live on ESPN+, kicking off a stretch of 10 straight home games for the Blue Hose. Presbyterian will play 29 non-conference bouts until the Big South path, stretching from February 7 to March 15.

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE

- After splitting an early-season series with PC 12 months ago, the Eagles will return to Clinton for the second time ever and will hope to erase the memory of a mere 12-win season in 2024.

- Morehead was able to grab the W in just six of their 27 league games in the Ohio Valley Conference, thus finishing ninth in that 10-team division.

- It was a rough debut year for head coach Megan Griffith and co., going 8-18 away from home. MSU was pounded by the Blue Hose in their second affair last winter, succumbing to a six-run third inning by PC that translated to a 9-1 run-rule decision.

SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY

- Three full seasons have passed since Presby last engaged with the Norse, a unit that tied for third in the Horizon League last year at 14-10 in conference territory and assembling 27 wins altogether.

- Megan Garek (an assistant with Northern Kentucky each of the past two seasons) was named the school's youngest-ever head coach on August 1. She takes the reigns for a squad that was one win away from qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in May, falling to Cleveland State in the conference championship game.

- NKU's visit to the Palmetto State this weekend will begin a sequence of 19 straight road games, meeting George Washington first before then turning their attention to Williams' crew.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON

- The only foe that Presby will duel just once in the Invitational, Saturday's matchup will be the inaugural game between the two programs located nearly eight hours apart.

- GW closed the 2024 slate with a sweep over St. Bonaventure to finish one game over .500 (27-26), somewhat salvaging a seventh-place standing in the Atlantic-10 Conference although they were unable to qualify for the league bracket.

- The Revolutionaries are led by head coach Chrissy Schoonmaker in her fourth go-around, picked by the conference's coaches to repeat a 7th-place mark.

- George Washington and PC will be in the same boat come postseason time, as both schools are the hosting parties for their respective conference's championship tournament.

2025 OUTLOOK

- Presbyterian aims to rebound from a 15-win tally a season ago, returning 14 players (nearly all of which have numerous starts to their name) and introducing five freshmen along with an IPFW transfer.

- After establishing a school-record for most home wins in a single season back in 2022, the Blue Hose have combined for 28 victories over the last two years when competing at their home site.

- Peyton Duncan (junior) and Kasey Wolfe (sophomore) figure to be PC's two most prominent pitchers in year seven for Williams, combining for over 183 innings and 105 strikeouts last time out.

- Wolfe was selected for preseason All-Big South honors last month after an exceptional two-way rookie season, ranked as the #15 best pitcher/utility dual threat player in the nation by D1 Softball.

- Mallory Fletcher (outfield), Kendall Owens (infield/DP), Kelby Goodrum (utility), and Emma Yanes (infield) make up this year's crop of seniors for Presbyterian, a group that combined for 140 hits in 2024 beside 63 runs-batted-in.
