PC Drops Series Finale to Winthrop in First Big South Matchup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team (9-12, Big South 1-2) wrapped up its first Big South series of the season with a 9-2 loss to the Winthrop Eagles (11-10, Big South 2-1) on Sunday evening in the series finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winthrop jumped out to an early lead, stringing together five hits in the first inning to go up 6-0.
  • Ryan Ouzts got the Blue Hose offense going in the second with a leadoff double to right-center. Mikah Conner followed with a single, and Ryan Becker's sacrifice fly brought Ouzts home to put PC on the board.
  • Both teams were held scoreless over the next three innings before the Eagles added two more runs in the sixth.
  • A solo home run in the eighth extended Winthrop's advantage to 9-1.
  • Ouzts capped off his strong day at the plate with a ninth-inning home run, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles secured the 9-2 series-clinching win.

NOTABLES
  • Ouzts recorded three hits on the day, including two doubles and a solo home run in the ninth.
  • Amman Dewberry doubled down the left-field line in the first inning, his third of the season.
