High Point Tops Blue Hose in Series Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team (17-25, Big South: 9-10) dropped the opening game of its weekend series to High Point (31-14, Big South: 12-4) by a score of 10-4 on Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • High Point struck first with a run in the second inning and maintained a 1-0 edge through four frames.
  • Presbyterian broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Eli Lazio singled and Rhogue Wallace reached on an error, setting up Amman Dewberry's RBI double to left center to even the game at 1-1.
  • The Panthers responded with four runs in the sixth, capped by a three-run homer from HPU's Three Hillier to take a 5-1 lead.
  • Jackson Hugus delivered an RBI double in the home half of the sixth to bring in Mikah Conner, trimming the deficit to 5-2.
  • However, High Point extended its lead with two runs in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and one in the ninth to make it 10-2 heading into the final frame.
  • PC showed late life in the ninth as Brody Linker singled and Nick Smith followed with a two-run home run — his first as a Blue Hose — to cut into the lead. Despite the late push, the Panthers secured the 10-4 win.
