CLINTON, S.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has recognized the Presbyterian College women's tennis program with its annual academic honors, celebrating success both in competition and in the classroom. PC earned ITA All-Academic Team status for the second year in a row and the ninth time in program history.
Individually, junior
McKenzie Davis and senior
Valentina De Sousa were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the third straight year, while freshman
Mary Ellen Longmire picked up her first career honor.
To qualify for ITA All-Academic Team status, a program must hold a combined team GPA of 3.20 or higher. Individual ITA Scholar-Athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year.
McKenzie Davis
Davis appeared in all 20 matches for the Blue Hose this past season and finished with nine singles victories. She posted six wins at the No. 2 position and added three more while competing at the top spot.
In doubles play, Davis compiled a 13-8 record, including 11 wins alongside Longmire. The pair put together an eight-match winning streak and collected four victories at the No. 2 position and seven at No. 3. Davis' 13 doubles wins tie with Longmire for the third-most in a single season in program history and represent the highest total by any Blue Hose player since 2019.
Her season was historic in more ways than one. Davis became just the third player in PC history to earn First Team All-Big South Singles honors and was named the Big South Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She also repeated as a member of the Big South All-Academic Team and picked up Big South Player of the Week honors twice during the spring.
Equally accomplished off the court, Davis maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as a political science major. She has been named to the President's List four times (Fall 2022, Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Fall 2024) and has earned back-to-back selections to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
Valentina De Sousa
De Sousa closed out her collegiate career with a team-best 10 singles victories, finishing the spring with a 10-11 overall record. She earned one win each at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions and added eight more at No. 3, becoming the only player in program history to record at least eight singles wins at that spot.
In doubles action, she picked up five victories, all while competing at the No. 1 position.
Off the court, De Sousa excelled as a Business Administration major. She maintained a spot on the Dean's List, earned Big South All-Academic Team honors in 2023, and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2024.
Mary Ellen Longmire
In her debut season with the Blue Hose, Longmire made an immediate impact with seven singles victories, competing at both the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. She delivered a key win against Radford late in the year that helped propel PC into the Big South Tournament.
Longmire also thrived in doubles, finishing with a 13-6 record that matched the team's top mark. She notched four wins at the No. 2 slot and nine more at No. 3. Teaming with Davis, the pair strung together eight straight victories and combined for four wins at No. 2 and seven at No. 3. Her 13 doubles wins tie with Davis for the third-highest single-season total in program history and stand as the most by a PC player in the last six seasons.
A standout in the classroom as well, Longmire is a biology major who was one of just five women's tennis players across the league named to the 2024-25 Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
