SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
- Wofford women's soccer began a new chapter in 2025 with the hiring of head coach Kevin Dempsey in January. His tenure with the Terriers has started with its share of setbacks, losing to USC Upstate, UNC Asheville, Navy, and Richmond all by the identical score of 1-0.
- However, Wofford's offensive woes changed on Thursday when they secured their first W of the semester opposite Big South opponent Gardner-Webb. A 72
nd-minute score was the difference as Wofford emerged with a 2-1 victory.
- PC's weekend challenger did not allow a goal in the second half across either of their last two efforts, currently in the middle of a four-match streak against schools from the Big South.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Hose were dealt a cruel twist of fate in their last outing, a 5-0 loss to Furman after they had just bested Alabama State by the same tally earlier in the week.
- Only a 1-0 hole at the midway point, the Paladins stacked up four goals in the final 45 minutes to give Presbyterian their first loss in four showings.
- Wofford will be the third SoCon squad that will square up with coach Smith's crew this year, following a scoreless tie with The Citadel in the opener and the Furman foray. Mercer was also supposed to be in the mix on Presby's '25 schedule, until a lengthy storm delay canceled those plans.
PC STINGS ALABAMA STATE
- The Scotsmen will aim for another happy weekend after their last Sunday performance was a scorcher. That outing with ASU was in doubt for a grand total of two minutes as Presbyterian launched an offensive assault to win for the second time in the young season.
- Senior
Lindsey Malyszek published her second two-goal effort with a couple of first-half connections, and PC went into the halftime break with three scores for the first time in seven years.
- Included in Presby's dominant win was transfer
Anna Hussey finding her first goal in a blue and garnet uniform, as well as sophomore
Harlan Lyons notching her second straight game with a goal scored.
- Rookie forward
Maddi Merryweather grabbed her first college point by assisting on Lyons' goal in the 78
th minute, while
Allie Williams solicited two assists on the day.
SPEES RECORD WATCH
- With her goal at the 2:21 mark over Alabama State, senior captain
Sloan Spees moved one step closer to making Blue Hose history as she disclosed her 15
th career score. That puts her one away from tying the school's Division I-era record, set by Sara Simpson in 2013.
- Spees has equaled the number that Tori Lopez (a teammate of Simpson's) settled on, needing just two more goals to become Presbyterian's new record-holder in the D-I timeline which spans back 18 years.
