The Blue Hose suffered a 76-43 loss at home to High Point in the team's last outing on Wednesday night (Jan. 7) at the Templeton Center.
Ja'Cia Cunningham led the Blue Hose offensively with 13 points. She has scored in double figures seven times this season and 26 times in her collegiate career. She shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe as well for the game. Ore Ogunwolere and Morgan Boyd each pitched in seven points for the Presbyterian offense. Both also recorded a blocked shot.
The Blue Hose outrebounded High Point for the game 33-30. Boyd led PC on the glass, grabbing five rebounds. Ogunwolere and Krystal Haddock added four boards against the Panthers.
BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBERS
Senior Ja'Cia Cunningham paces Presbyterian offensively coming into Wednesday night, averaging 9.2 points per game. She ranks in the top 20 of the Big South in scoring. She is second on the team in field goals made on the year with 54 and has started four total games for the Blue Hose this season. Senior Aminata Tal is PC's second-leading scorer on the season going into Wednesday, averaging 8.9 points per game. She leads the team in field goals made with 57 this year and is second in made free throws with 25. She has started in seven total games.
Ore Ogunwolere powers the Blue Hose this season in assists (37) and steals (23), ranking in the top 15 of the league in both categories. She also leads the team in minutes per game, averaging 27.3. Daniella Velez is second on the team in assists (32) and steals (22) this season. She has started 11 games and is third on the team in total minutes with 380.
Freshman Allie Sykes leads the team from both the three-point line and free throw line this year. She has made 23 total three-pointers going into Wednesday, which ranks 13th in the conference. She has made 16 of her 18 free throw attempts as well for the Blue Hose.
Sophomore Morgan Boyd is the only player to start all 16 games for Presbyterian. She leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.1 rebounds per game. She also leads the team in free throws made with 31 and is second on the team in minutes per game (25.4). She is shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc as well, making 5 of her 13 three-point attempts. Finally, she is tied for the team lead in blocks with nine.
Freshman Aretha Linger has had a strong first season for PC. She is tied with Boyd for the team lead in blocked shots with nine in just seven games played. She also is tied for second on the team in rebounding (4.3 per game) and leads the team in field goal percentage shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.
CAREER-HIGHS
Krystal Haddock and Morgan Boyd each had career games against Longwood (Jan. 3) in PC's last road trip in Big South play. Haddock scored a career-high 18 points to lead all scorers. Boyd poured in a career-high 16 points for Presbyterian, making 8-of-12 free throws on the afternoon (both career-highs as well).
Haddock tied her career-high on the glass against the Lancers, grabbing eight rebounds to lead the Blue Hose.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
USC Upstate comes into Wednesday night with a five-game losing streak and an 0-4 record in the Big South. The Spartans have dropped each of their last two games by a combined five points. Cassie Gallagher powers the Spartan offense, averaging 14.9 points per game. She leads the Big South in three-point percentage (42.3 percent) and minutes played per game (31.8). As a team, the Spartans lead the conference in rebounding (41.3 rebounds per game) and three-point shooting percentage (34.1 percent). Former PC standout center Bryanna Brady (2021-24) is in her first season as an assistant coach with the Spartans. She earned Second-Team All-Big South honors twice and helped lead PC to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in 2024. Jason Williams is in his fourth season as the head coach of USC Upstate.
PRESBYTERIAN – USC UPSTATE ALL-TIME SERIES
The Blue Hose have won 28 of the 54 all-time meetings with USC Upstate dating back to 1978. PC has won each of the last three meetings, including both matchups last season. The Blue Hose picked up a 68-51 road victory last year in Spartanburg, holding the Spartans to just 30.9 shooting from the field. As a team, Presbyterian shot 45.9 shooting from the floor and went 4-of-10 from the three-point line. The Blue Hose also forced 20 Spartan turnovers.
BLUE HOSE ROSTER
Joining the Blue Hose this season are nine newcomers (four transfers and five freshmen). The transfers for Coach Sardin are Ore Ogunwolere (Union College), Ja'Cia Cunningham (Chicago State), Krystal Haddock (Tennessee State), and Laetitia Kamdoum (Cochise College).
Freshmen Aretha Linger, Yolanda Floyd, Allie Sykes, Samantha Mullock, and Amani Williams also join the Blue Hose. This is the most freshmen the Blue Hose have had on the roster since the 2022-23 season (also five).
The Blue Hose also return four from last year's roster. Seniors Shelby Fiddler and Aminata Tal lead the returners for PC. Sophomores Morgan Boyd and Daniella Velez also are back for the Blue Hose this season.
