Saturday's game against the Bulldogs will be Community Day at the Templeton Center.



LAST TIME OUT
The Blue Hose dropped a road contest to USC Upstate 58-38 on Wednesday evening (Jan. 14) at the G.B. Hodge Center.

 

Ja'Cia Cunningham paced the Presbyterian offense for the second straight game, leading the Blue Hose with 12 points. She made three three-pointers for the game, also logging three steals. On the season, she has now scored in double figures eight times to lead the team. 

 

Krystal Haddock added nine points for the Blue Hose, while Ore Ogunwolere pitched in seven. As a team, the Blue Hose forced 21 Spartan turnovers for the game and recorded 10 steals on the defensive end.


 

BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBERS
Senior Ja'Cia Cunningham powers PC on the offensive end of the floor, averaging 9.4 points per game. She sits in the top 20 of the conference in scoring going into this weekend. She leads the team in field goals made this season with 58 and has started three total games for the Blue Hose. Senior Aminata Tal is PC's second-leading scorer coming into Saturday, averaging 8.4 points per game. She is second on the team in field goals made with 57 this year and is second in made free throws with 25. She has started in seven total games for PC.


Ore Ogunwolere paces Presbyterian this year in assists (42) and steals (24). She ranks ninth in the Big South in assists. She also leads the team in minutes per game, averaging 27.8. Daniella Velez is second on the team in assists (32) and steals (22). She has started in 12 games and is third on the team in total minutes with 404.


Freshman Allie Sykes leads the Blue Hose from distance and the free throw line this season. She has made 23 total three-pointers going into Saturday's contest against the Bulldogs, which ranks 14th in the league. She has made 16 of her 18 free throw attempts as well for PC. 


Sophomore Morgan Boyd is the only player to start all 17 games for Presbyterian. She leads the Blue Hose on the glass, averaging 4.8 rebounds per game. She also leads the team in free throws made with 32 and is second on the team in minutes per game (25.4). Finally, she is tied for the team lead in blocks with nine.

Freshman Aretha Linger has been productive for Presbyterian in the first year of her collegiate career. She is tied with Boyd for the team lead in blocked shots with nine in just seven games played. Offensively, she averages 7.7 points per game to go along with shooting 41.7 percent from the field.



CAREER-HIGHS
Several Blue Hose players have delivered career-highs so far in conference play. Amani Williams made her first career start in PC's road contest at USC Upstate on Wednesday (Jan. 14), grabbing a career-high seven rebounds and recording a career-high three steals. Ja'Cia Cunningham drained three three-pointers against the Spartans, setting a new season-high and tying her career-high.


Krystal Haddock and Morgan Boyd each had career games earlier in league play at Longwood (Jan. 3). Haddock scored a career-high 18 points to lead all scorers. Boyd poured in a career-high 16 points for PC, making 8-of-12 free throws on the afternoon (both career-highs as well). Haddock tied her career-high on the glass against the Lancers, grabbing eight rebounds. 

 


SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
UNC Asheville enters Saturday's contest with a 6-12 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the Big South. The Bulldogs have dropped two straight since picking up their lone win of conference play against Gardner-Webb. Nia Green powers UNC Asheville on both ends of the floor. She ranks sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game. She also sits in second in the league in field goal percentage, shooting 53.5 percent from the field. Green paces the team in rebounds and leads the conference in blocked shots (1.06 per game). As a team, UNC Asheville leads the conference in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 35.4 percent shooting from the floor. The Bulldogs also rank second in scoring defense, giving up just 60.8 points per game. Head coach Tynesha Lewis is in her second season with UNC Asheville.

 


PRESBYTERIAN – UNC ASHEVILLE ALL-TIME SERIES
The Bulldogs have a narrow lead in the all-time series with the Blue Hose, leading the series 20-19. UNC Asheville won the two most recent matchups last season, including in the opener of the Big South Tournament 69-63. The Blue Hose had won the previous six meetings with the Bulldogs. UNC Asheville has not won in Clinton since 2021.

 


BLUE HOSE ROSTER
Joining the Blue Hose this season are nine newcomers (four transfers and five freshmen). The transfers for Coach Sardin are Ore Ogunwolere (Union College), Ja'Cia Cunningham (Chicago State), Krystal Haddock (Tennessee State), and Laetitia Kamdoum (Cochise College).

Freshmen Aretha Linger, Yolanda Floyd, Allie Sykes, Samantha Mullock, and Amani Williams also join the Blue Hose. This is the most freshmen the Blue Hose have had on the roster since the 2022-23 season (also five).

 
The Blue Hose also return four from last year's roster. Seniors Shelby Fiddler and Aminata Tal lead the returners for PC. Sophomores Morgan Boyd and Daniella Velez also are back for the Blue Hose this season.
