CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian Blue Hose redshirt senior forward
Jonah Pierce earned Co-Big South Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Pierce is the 13th different Presbyterian player to earn the Big South Men's Basketball Player of the Week award in the program's history. Pierce is the second Blue Hose to garner Big South weekly honors this season after redshirt freshman forward
Chidi Chiakwelu garnered Big South Freshman of the Week honors on November 17.
PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK
The Sanford, Florida native averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 62.1 percent (18-for-29) from the field in helping Presbyterian post wins over UNC Asheville at home and Gardner-Webb on the road.
In Presbyterian's 71-70 win over UNC Asheville on January 14, Pierce scored 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and blocked three shots.
In the Blue Hose's 92-55 road win at Gardner-Webb on January 17, he scored 20 points (shooting 9-for-12 from the field) while grabbing 13 rebounds.
PLAY THIS SEASON
Pierce leads the Blue Hose and ranks tenth in the Big South in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game. He leads the Big South and ranks 28th in the nation in rebounding, averaging 9.5 boards per game. This season, Pierce has recorded 10 double-doubles, which ranks first in the Big South and eighth in the nation in double-doubles.
