PC Drops Heartbreaker in Extras to North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (2-9) suffered a 12-11 defeat to North Florida in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 28) at Harmon Stadium.

 

The Blue Hose rallied from a six-run deficit in the eighth inning to extend the game to extra innings, tying the game at 11. However, PC failed to score in the top of the 10th, and North Florida ended the game with a run in the bottom of the inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Florida used four hits to strike first in the bottom of the first inning, plating three to grab an early 3-0 lead to begin the afternoon.

- Two singles to start the third inning helped the Blue Hose respond to tie the game up at three. Jonathan Williams recorded an RBI sacrifice fly, and an RBI double from Amman Dewberry got Presbyterian right back in it.

- The Ospreys took the lead back in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs on a two RBI home run. However, the Blue Hose answered, using a Brody Linker double to stay within one run of the Ospreys.

- PC stayed within a run before tying the game in the sixth inning. Williams recorded his second RBI of the game, singling home Andrew Albertus to knot the game up at five.

- The game would stay tied until North Florida poured it on in the seventh inning, scoring six runs on six hits to separate and grab an 11-5 lead.

- Down six, the Blue Hose stayed in the fight. Presbyterian responded with a five-run eighth to battle back and get within a run of the Ospreys. In the inning, Albertus, Dewberry, Matthew Rollison, and Emory Guilford all accounted for the runs to bring back the Blue Hose.

- With one more chance in the ninth, the Blue Hose answered the bell again, tying the game on an RBI groundout from Albertus to send PC to extras. However, North Florida got it done in the tenth, winning the game on a fielder's choice.

 

 

NOTABLES 
- Amman Dewberry led the Blue Hose offense once again, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and two doubles. He now has seven multi-hit games this season.

- Andrew Albertus had his best offensive game of the season, going 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs and logging two RBIs.

- Layton Hyneman got his first of the season, also recording an RBI and scoring two runs.

- Christian Charalambous started on the mound for the Blue Hose, going 5.2 innings and striking out four. 

- Tyrell Williams and Tristan McGregor also pitched for the Blue Hose. McGregor pitched 2.2 innings, giving up just two hits and allowing one run.

- As a team, the Blue Hose had 10 hits. Seven players posted a hit.

- Brody Linker recorded his second double in three games.
